hi...i'm currently on 40mg of prozac a day, i just increased it at the beginning of last week under my doc's advice. before that i was at 20mg for about 3 months and 30mg for a month after that. i really don't know if prozac is doing the job it is susposed to, i mean i know i've only had this increased dose a few days, but i was sleeping fine before the dose went up and now i am early morning waking again, which is no fun. i don't know how i can be feeling worse on more medication, but i had a friend who took prozac and it made her cry all the same so she switched to paxil and that worked really well, so i'm thinking a change in meds might do me some good. get to see my doc on tuesday anyway...also has anyone tried effexor or any of those really new anti-d's...i've heard they're good for anxiety as well, and i was just wondering if anyone new much about them?

I've been on all the SSRI's. For me they work great for awhile then they stop working. I have a low tolerance for meds. I am currently on Cymbalta and like it a lot. I had to go off of it for about a week and didn't like that at all so it proves to me that I still need the med. With that said everyone reacts to meds differently. I hope the best for you and mention it to your doc about your symptoms maybe a med change is due.

I know how you feel.... I took Prozac back a few years ago and it did indeed make me worse, even more suicidal. And I too had the early morning wake ups - YUCK!! nothing worse than getting up at 4 AM after going to bed at midnight.

BTW - I am taking Celexa (20 mg) for my anxiety and it is working GREAT!!!!

I had good results with Effexor, but I went off it when I was DX'd bipolar (not recommended). Cymbalta is supposed to be similar...they are regarded as being effective for severe depression. They are SSNRI's, they limit the reuptake of norepinephrine as well as seratonin, different critters than Prozac or Paxil.
