Cheer up drug stats? most people get help if they persevere:

Do an internet search on "treatment resistant depression" and you will learn more about it. Right now I am trying my 19th med-- so far, nothing has worked for me.

I am also drug resistant. I have been trying to get my depression under control and so far, no luck. It has been 8
years now.

I am really frustated. I can only hope that soon a miracle will happen with a new med. or treatment.

Good luck, drug stats? drug stats?

i believe that many cases of depression require more than meds to feel relief, whether it be good friends and family or therapy. Don't give up and remember that drugs are only one tool to get you feeling better

By the way, have you ever tried a mood stabalizer instead of an antidepressant?

I've read several studies saying ADs help 1/3 of the people, 1/2, or this study Perna cited says 2/3. So they don't help everyone. Another approach, either on its own, or in combination with meds, is psychotherapy. Therapy has really helped me. So has getting my sleep habits under control. For me, it's like a number of things each help a little bit, and combined, they can make a dent. Therapy has been the most helpful of all.

Hang in there. Try everything you can, both drugs and other approaches.

Jrae,

I took more anti-dep. than I can even remember before finally finding one that worked - and what a relief that was! I also do therapy with a counselor. Some folks are just saddled with a body or mind that doesn't easily respond to things. I also find that I have to have higher dosages on some meds and that is an expensive pain in the neck.

I do sympathize, but recommend you keep trying and looking around for things to help you. I wish you all the best and some real relief!!!

Leslie

There are many options for depression. My approach for someone who is treatment resistant to drugs would be a multi-factorial approach. In other words you need to try multiple things at once under the direction of a therapist or psychiatrist.

For instance you could start to do light exercise, mindful breathing, modify your diet, take certain supplements that have been clinically proven to reduce depression, and of course keep a sleep journal to monitor changes in your sleeping habits.

drug stats? I agree with those that say the best way to treat depression is with as many tools as possible. Medication is a part of my success story, but exercise, diet, and therapy/support system really give me a better chance. Also, reaching out and helping others to get out of myself and my thoughts is uncomfortable at times but extremely rewarding.
