About a month ago, I was started on 30mg of Cymbalta for anxiety and depression.

This morning, I wasn't able to take my doasge at my usual time. I stuffed my pill bottle in my purse, and ran off to work, intending to take it as soon as I got there. (Usually I have enough time before we open to take it) But as soon as I got to work, There was a huge line outside the gate, and we had to open a bit early to accommodate the ever-increasing line of customers. So i wasn't able to take it when I got there.

It had been over 24 hours since I had taken my last dosage, and long story short, I had a terrible panic attack. It had been several months since my last one. Luckily one of my managers took me away from everything to get some air outside, and had me do breathing exercises to control the hyperventilation.

But I'm wondering if this is because I hadn't taken the dosage, or if the combination of work, pissy customers, and lack of sleep caused it. I'm also wondering if anyone else has experienced the same thing after missing a dosage, and if I should tell my doctor about what happened.

Thanks

Many psych medications can cause withdrawal effects. Some may cause symptoms after missing just one dose but it all depends on the medication. I think it's very likely missing your Cymbalta may have triggered your attack. Check with your doctor or pharmacist.

I take Effexor which is similar to Cymbalta and I have experienced horrible withdrawal symptoms after missing just one dose.

I don't know about panic attacks but I believe Cymbalta has an *extremely* short half-life (meaning it gets eliminated from your system much more quickly than other ADs, so if you stop taking it it hits you all at once).

I took it a few years ago, as did a friend of mine, and when we both missed a few doses we felt like we were seasick within 48 hours.

(It's something to keep in mind, if you ever go off it intentionally for whatever reason, to titrate [i.e. cut your dose in half but keep taking it for like five days, then halve that if you can for a few days, depending on what kind of pill it is, and so on.])
