I am hearing that neurontin can be effective for bipolar depression (which includes intense anxiety). Has anyone out there had an experience with it? I have tried soooo many things with very little success.

Was given Neurontin after my foot surgery last year. All it did was make me sleepy. Anyone taking neurontin?

I have been taking neurontin for about 6 months. It was prescribed for me for nerve pain, but I findf that it has been really helping with my mood and my anxiety, along with some other recently added meds. I didn't realize this until I starterd to wean my self off of it, so I started bumping myself back up.
The drowsiness is really bad in the beginning, so it took me a long time to get to the 2700 mg per day. I started at 100 mg 3x per day, and then every three days added 100 mg to the daily dose starting with bedtime dose and moving backwards. This really took care of the sleepiness by doing it this way. When they initially started me at 300mg 3x a day, I was a complete zombie.

My husband has been on neurontin for eight years I'm not sure if it's for the brachial plexus injury (one of his arm is paralyzed from five broken vertebra). He say it feels like it's on fire. He also suffers from a bad head injury. I know if he doesn't take it he says his head feel really messed up.

It works well for the anxiety component primarily, but it also has some mood benefit. It's true that once has to work up the dosage slowly, as it does initially tend to make people drowsy.

Definitely worth a try!
Best,
Okie

Yes I took Neurontin off-label for depression and it was really helpful. I took it at bedtime. It not only made me drowsy, it made me drowsy in a way that felt very natural. It was gradual and I fell asleep naturally and I stayed asleep all night. I had been having problems with both, falling asleep and staying asleep.

Getting adequate and regular sleep may have been what helped me the most at that time, I'm not sure. I was also taking Prozac.

I liked the Neurontin.

Hello! I took neurontin (gabapentin) for several years for nerve damage migraines. It wasn't until i was OFF of it for awhile that things started falling apart for me, and my anxiety went thru the roof. I did not realize how much it helped my mood !!!! I think it is a fantastic drug.
