I"m really nervous about starting to take the lithium. Could ya'll tell me your experiences with it. Please dont scare the crap out of me.

I've been taking a higher dosage of Lithium for quite some time. Nothing negative at all to say about the drug, in fact, probably the best mood stabilizer I've ever taken.

Good luck Chalm!

I am also on a higher dosage than that and the only thing I noticed is a metallic taste in your mouth when eating. Things taste a little different now, but that's it.

Good luck.

dayna it helped me some, but the my pdoc now says the only reason it wasnt a good match is b/c im type 2...rapid cycling. jsut give it a shot love. remember to take them every day but never more than ur prescribed.

i would recommend getting ur thryoid tested while ur on it too.

I'm on 600 mg, no side effects, no weight gain, no drowsiness, nothing. It works like a dream (my moods still fluctuate a bit, but it might be normal Lithium) - I was satisfied from day 1. The highs and lows are on a fairly short leash now.

Thank ya'll for giving me your experiences with the lithium. I started last night on it. 300mg. The only thing i notice so far is that my teeth feel funny. lol. Kinda like when you get a sinus headache.

I dont know off hand if thats a side effect. But gonna look it up and see.

Again, thank ya'll so much

I was on 900 mg for awhile. I recently came off of it because it just wasn't worth taking-- I have very atypical mood swings, and Lithium really isn't designed to handle those types of swings. Out of the 18 drugs I have tried, Lithium was the most tolerable, side-effect wise. I had some stomach problems with it (mostly when the dose was increased), a bad taste in my mouth, and some hair loss-- we're not talking clumps or bald spots here, lol... but definitely more hair than usual was coming out when I would be styling my hair.

Yeah Hallie i was told to drink 8-10 bottles of water a day. I already do, so no big deal.

Thanks Pink for giving me your experience with Lithium. I read about the metallic taste you can get and the hairloss. I'm glad to hear its not in clumps. When i read the papers my pdoc gave me on this med it got me so scared to take it. But ya'll have really helped me to calm down and just do what he says.

Thank you to all of ya's

I'm on 1200mg a day and the only side effect left is a tremor when I get stressed. It's really not bad. There were other side effects when I first started it, but they were gone in 1-2 weeks. Hope this helps.
