i've been taking zoloft for years. it does make a difference. but less of a help in recent years. my doctor added welbutrin.

has anyone else had this combo? has it worked for you?

i've only been on the welbutrin in combination with the zoloft for a few weeks. just wondering if anyone has found any success with the combo.

thanks,
lily

I think there was a big study looking at adding either wellbutrin or buspar to SSRIs (the STAR study). I think they each helped about a third of the people. (Don't quote me on that.) So you just have to try and see if it helps. I think wellbutrin is often added if you need to be peppier or less zombie/lethargic/uncaring/unfeeling, like some people get on SSRIs. Wellbutrin is also sometimes added to counteract negative sexual side effects of SSRIs.

I started on Wellbutrin about 1 month ago (without an SSRI). I think I am still coming on to it, so it does take a while to reach full effect. We took quite a while to gradually increase the dose. If you are feeling no effect, maybe you need a higher dose.

It's actually a common combo which my friend who is on it calls wel-oft.

I've been on Wellbutrin & Zoloft for almost 2 years. I started out on Lexapro with my primary care doctor - then went to a psychiatrist who switched me to only Wellbutrin when I complained of constant fatigue & lack of motivation. He diagnosed me with dysthymia (long-term mild depression) & double depression (dysthymia coupled with a separate depression - I was dealing with my dad's cancer at the time.) When he put me on this, I started having these terrible pinchy sensations all over - tightness in my chest - and a lot of weeping - so he added Zoloft to the Wellbutrin and I also took ativan for a while as needed. (I later figured out that I was probably having some sort of withdrawal from the Lexapro along with the new regimen of Wellbutrin?)

Anyway, I'm now on 300 mg Wellbutrin - SR (once a day) and 140 Zoloft (once a day). I take it in the morning. How do I feel? Well, the first 3 days on Wellbutrin - I had so much energy I was in second heaven. I scrubbed my entry way tiles by hand till they shined... Then, on or about the 3rd day, the energy stopped as sudden as it started. (You could see by the tiles where it ran out!)

The regimen has seemed to work OK for me in managing the depression - but in the last 3 months or so, I feel very tired again & long for some zeal. I'm wondering if I need to change medications again? I meet with my psychiatrist in a few weeks & will discuss it. I homeschool my 3 children & my third, a 4 year old, is adopted from China & is VERY high maintenance & requires constant attention. This is part of the reason for my lack of energy...

If anyone has any questions about my experiences - please write...

Blessings,
