Well, we have a thread for klonopin withdrawal, but I just filled my first script for it tonight and will start taking it tomorrow, .5 mg 2x/day. I know nothing about it. Xanax didn't do diddly for me. What sort of stuff should I expect from klonopin?

thanks

Candy

For me Clonazpam was rough.. even on the smallest dose I couldn't tolerate it. The only tranqulizer that ever helped me a little bit was Ativan.

I hope you have better luck with this then I did.

I have the same dosage given to me by my pdoc, "as needed", not necessarily daily, so I do not see addiction being an issue at all.
It has helped for anxiety/panic attacks as I went and sometimes still go through some rough times in my 3d world, but do not see it addictive if one follows the doc's directions. If you have fears of this, talk to your doc., most doc's do not give you many if any refills till they see you again, but that may vary from state to state, doctor to doctor and different countries.

I wish you luck with this all.

It worked very well for me in small numbers. I did not really have any side effects from it, but I was taking so many meds at that time that it is quite possible that I was but just thought it was from something else....
To get away from me babbling the only problem that i had with it was I had a LOT of problems with withdrawl when I stopped taking it. So whatever you do make sure you do not stop cold turkey!
I hope that this helps you.

Yeah, I have a friend who was on Klonopin for 10 years and said that even tapering off under a doctor's supervision, the withdrawals lasted over a month! Ugh. I don't plan to be on it for more than a few months -- at least that seems to be my pdoc's intention. He just thought it would help get me over a couple of really stressful things I have coming up.

I wonder if bad withdrawal isn't just the way it goes with ALL psych meds. It took me about a month to get over withdrawing from Depakote, and it was horrible. And when my pdoc tried to take me off Risperdal, which I've been on for about 5 years, we tapered off that too, and when I quit taking it, I became actively suicidal in about 36 hours. Needless to say, I went back on .... I can't say I've heard any good psych med withdrawal stories, so I guess it's just the nature of the beast.

Sweet, sweet, klonopin. I still hear its siren's call in the back of my mind. Watch out even taking it for a short period, like 2 weeks, puts you at risk for addiction. A small dosage is a good start but your body will build resistance to it, and the more resistance the harder a drug is to get off, no matter how you taper.

candy, i've been on xanax, valium, vistaril, ativan, etc. klonopin by far works good with the less side affects for me.

xanax knocked me out. valium caused a queer anxiety. ativan didn't work at all. klonopin ( i only take a few times a year, but can take daily if needed) does the trick for me. i've had not one ill affect from it. it doesn't even knock me out bad, but lets me sleep.

as i said, i only take it a few times a year, but when i do rest assured i'm in BAD shape and it's never failed to help me. i was on many meds for a couple of years...too many...so i have a hard time taking anything now. klonopin, in my opinion is a good drug. of course, with only taking a few a year, i've not dealt with addiction issues...but i don't think that to be a prob for me and benzos. i was on xanax for over two years daily and just quit one day (along with a bunch of other things. p'doc said he does not know how i didn't end up in hosp with convulsions. DID helped me there lots i think. i didn't feel a thing klonopin ) if taking daily you may have to worry about building resistence and then withdrawal. remember, there's a HUGE difference between use and abuse/between physical dependence and addiction. follow the dr's instruction to minimize any potential problems in the long run.

good luck,

kd
