I was prescribed prozac 2 months ago (20mg) which barely touched me, then it was increased to 40mg which helped a little but I was still very apathetic and lacking in energy. My doc added 150mg of wellbutrin last week to give me an added boost. I definately have more energy but am a little anxious. I had to cut down on my coffee (the caffeine on top of the wellbutrin made my heart race). I was also have what felt like "electric shocks" through my body periodically. Yesterday I started experiencing a metalic-like taste in my mouth which is quite gross. I have also been experiencing these weird "half awake" kinds of "dreams" that almost seem like hallucinations. Very weird.

I don't know if I can continue on the wellbutrin because I am anxious and at times crawling out of my skin. I am also compulsively eating again, which happens when I feel anxious. I am concerned that I will need to stop the wellbutrin which was my last chance in regards to continuing on the prozac. My doc has said that if this combo didn't work we would need to try a completely different AD and I would be starting all over again. Wellbutrin and Prozac may not be enough...

In reading the posts I know people have had to try many different meds before they found the right mix but it just makes me tired to think I will need to start all over again!

Has this combo worked for other people? Is it common to add wellbutrin on top of other AD's?

I just started the same meds. Ive been on these two meds before and do well on them they are my daytime meds. and I take deplin as well which has been one of the best meds. I taken . Its not really a med. but a med. food which helps the other meds. work better. It takes time to get use to a new med. you have to give it a week or two to let you brain get adjusted to the them. I made the mistake of taken 300mg of wellbutrin at one time and thought I was going to go out of my mind .

If you are bipolar and manic wellbutrin can make you worst. I love being manic so its great !! I do have meds. to bring me down if they are need .Im on 5 kinds of meds for my bipolar 2 of them I can adjust my self to fit where im at with cycling . I found that over the years this works best fot me .It dose work for all meds. but there are some you can change as need both of them are for when im manic .
I dont mess with my antidepprsion meds. .You cant they need to be taken at same time and same dose everyday or they dont work.

I think it is common for pdocs to prescribe a combo of meds. Generally when another med is added to one you are already taking it is called augmenting. Maybe wellbutrin is not for you. I know starting over is not something you want to do...but, finding the right combo is something that might take some time. Hang in there and stick with it...you'll make it. It took a long time for my pdoc to find the right combo for me--abilify, lamictal and wellbutrin.

Thank you for your responses!

Well, I was taken off the Wellbutrin today. I loved the energy it gave me but my anxiety went through the roof. I was impulsive and over eating and weepy and anxious.

Sooo... I will have a week off the Wellbutrin and then we will talk again about the next trial. What we have learned from this is that a lot of symptoms I have had difficulty describing may actually be anxiety. Gotta find the golden nuggets wherever I can!
