My doctor wants to put me into Zoloft for Anxiety aswell as keeping me on Risperidone for my Psychosis. I am worried about developing serotonin syndrome from this as i have seen many reports and cautions about using Risperidone with a SSRI medication. How should I approach my doctor about this. She has already put me on Mirtazapine but it seems like the Risperidone is canceling out the Mirtazapine because i have noticed no anti depressant effects and i have been on the medication for several months. Is Serotonin Syndrome common in these kind of conditions where Risperidone and Zoloft are being used in conjunction with eachother?

Roy: I looked into this for you. The following link will take you to a page that describes how Risperidone SAVES animals from serotonin syndrome and reverses it. Hope this helps.

Thats very strange because i read a article on risperidone and SSRI medication being a cause of serotonin syndrome. I dont know how well founded the research was however it was posted on rxlist.com awhile ago. I checked it recently and it dosnt mention anything about it now. Maybe this animal test is only recent and since the medication has been found not to cause serotonin syndrome when used with a SSRI im not sure. rxlist.com is normally a fairly good resource however it only states what the manufacturer of the drug has released.
