I"ve just been prescribed Cymbalta (8/1/08). 30 mg for the first week and 60 the second week. Doc wants to see me in two weeks (8/15/08) to see how it is doing for me.

So far, I've been taking it in the morning and I'm rather sleepy a few hours after taking it. I am going to try and take it in the evenings and see if that makes a difference. noticable side effects: sleepy, jaw clenching, a little nausea (not too bad and not persistant), sweating a bit. I'm always sweating in my sleep, but this morning it was after I got out of the shower and while I was getting dressed, which is odd for me.

Good luck and let me know how you are doing with it.

I've been on Cymbalta for several months, after trying 3 other AD's. They all sent me into varying degrees of hypomania, but the Cymbalta doesn't. In fact, it makes me kind of tired, so I take it at night. I was eating everything in sight for the first 2 weeks, but that has leveled off. No other side effects for me, and it's literally been a lifesaver, chasing away the black clouds in my head.......

i am glad it's helping you guys and you are tolerating it ok.. ty for responding. For me though, the news was not so good.

i tried my first dose Sunday night and i started feeling pretty nauseous a half an hour or so later... within the hour i was barfing like no tomorrow. It was horrible - i have never reacted to a drug that way before. i had been worried about fatigue! i ended up throwing up my other meds but without knowing how much had been absorbed i couldn't take any more.. so i spent a restless night sleeping in a half-sitting position with a bucket by my bed. ick

SSRI's dont work at all for me, wellbutrin made me aggressive, clomipramine worked for a while but stopped working and i cannot take that other type (MAIO>>> MOAI... dang, however you say it) due to other meds i need to take.

*sigh.. im doomed

Sorry the Cymbalta made you so sick - how horrible!

I had to try so many before I found the one that worked for me and the fibromyalgia - Cymbalta.

Seriously, I tried approx 12-16 over many years and this was the first good one - now I do have the carbo-crazies going on and my sleep is messed up - but that is me, not cym.

I do hope you can find one that works for you!

Cymbalta is a VERY scary drug. I'm just now finding out how scary... honestly, I believe you're lucky to have had the reaction you did before ever getting it built up in your system.
I've been on it for 2 1/2 years (at least, maybe a little more but that overlaps my memory loss from shock treatment...), and for nothing. The whole time it was just because the original prescriber thought I should be on some anti-depressant, while it was Ritalin doing all the work. (Ritalin is my miracle drug, I would doubtless be dead by suicide if it hadn't been prescribed, and no, I'm not the least bit ADD.) I stuck with it thinking it was harmless, and since it was covered I didn't want to mess with my med combo. Now that it's not covered and is a major pain to obtain I've decided to ditch it. Now I find out it has horrible, sustained withdrawals - considered worse than those suffered from illegal substances by those who have experienced both. Even well-planned weanings can result in seizures, severe illness, loss of functions, and hospitalizations, with risk of death.

Anyway, now I'm irked and found your post while looking for information, and thought I'd reply since I'm sleepless from withdrawals and emphatically warn anyone reading to STAY AWAY FROM CYMBALTA!

according to my Psychiatrist, Cymbalta is Eli Lilly's response to losing Prozac to the generic market.....

I have heard it has terrible withdrawal symptoms and a few other side effects

he did not want me to try it

Out of the 19 drugs I have been on, I would probably rate Cymbalta as my 3rd worst response to a medication.

After taking only one pill, I was so weak that I couldn't stand, horribly nauseas, and shaky. I never took another one again.

I have heard negative responses from a lot of people in regards to this drug.

Come to think of it, I don't even see many of my own clients on it-- most of them that need an anti-depressants are taking Celexa, Zoloft, Proac, or Lexapro.

Funny, it works fine for me.
Didn't make me as sick as Effexor did (!!!)
Cymbalta/Wellbutrin combo is managing my depression very nicely.

The only thing I notice is that I KNOW when I miss a dose, so I imagine the withdrawls could get nasty.
And I know I'm not like most people...Nothing else has worked for me except MAOIs. And compared to those, this is a cake-walk.
