I've been taking medication for anxiety for the pass five months. For the first two months I was on Lexapro and then switched to Effexor. The thing is, as far as I can tell I feel the same way as I did before I started the medication. When I told my doctor that I didn't think the medication was working she seemed critical and just kept me on what I was taking. So, am I supposed to notice that I'm less anxious when the medication starts to work or not? I've never taken these types of drugs before so any advice I could get from someone who has would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Sarah

Different people seem to react to medications differently. I had the same reaction that you do and finally decided that the medications in fact did not work for me. I found this quite hard because, as you say, some professionals tend to become quite critical when you say this. I finally gave up trying to say it, and had to decide to go my own way.

Hey (((((((Sarah)))))))))))

Generally you can't honestly make a good assessment if a drug works for you completely unless you've been on it about a month. But since you've been on the Effexor for 3? months (I hope that's right) ... I'd assume you'd be noticing a difference by now. I certainly did, and I've been on both Lexapro & Effexor (currently on Effexor). What dosage are you on? If it's a lower dosage, perhaps ask the doctor to up it for a while, and see if it works.

Not all drugs work for all people, especially when it comes to mind-altering ones like antidepressants.

If you don't think this drug is working for you - find another doctor, pronto! You need someone who will actually listen and work with you, not against you.

Am I supposed to notice when the medication works?
