I am using the starter pack. Right now I am on day 31-- which will be the 3rd 100mg pill. I did two weeks on 25mg, two weeks on 50mg, and now one week on 100mg... then I will get my prescription from the pharmacy and stick with 100mg until I see my pdoc.

He said that ideally, he would like me to take 200mg. I understand that because of the very slow climb to therapeutic dose, in order to descrease the risk of the rash, Lamictal will take awhile to work.

For those of you who are on Lamictal (and find it effective) at one point in the treatment did you notice a difference? How many milligrams were you taking?

Thank you in advance.

Hi Pink~

Back when I had gone in the hospital My Pdoc put me on Lamictal and Cymbalta at the same time. From what I can remember it was about 2 weeks when I started noticing ( and my hubby too) the difference. I think I was started out on 50 mg.. and then titrated up to 300mg. I was on this for about a year. Then made the switch to Topamax. Lamictal caused me weight gain. I liked Topamax too. Have you been on that one? Maybe it could be considered if the Lamicatal doesnt work out.. just a thought. Good luck, I know how it can be trying out new meds.

Take care
Beth

It does take a while to really make a difference because of the achingly slow climb to your best dose. I was up to a 200mg dose for several months before trying to conceive through IVF (another story-it didn't work), and had to go off. I can honestly say that it made an amazing difference in my life. I'm more balanced with the bipolar II swings, the OCD became more controllable, which made the anxiety calm down, too = less Ativan needed. I'm a better mother, wife, family member, and friend. hang in there When does Lamictal start to work?
