Need to know what to do for itching, this is not an allergy, when I become overly stressed or tired I start itching until I draw blood

Hey there
Im not sure what to do about it, but Ive been like that all my life too. Ive always had itchy skin and I dont have any allergies. It starts when Im nervous and anxious.
And it can go on forever. I have noticed that when Im scratching Im not breathing well, and sometimes when I relax and breathe slowly it stops. I dont think being warm helps either.

Sorry I cant help you but I understand how you feel. I wouldnt take any medication for my itching, because Im already on enough meds as it is. I just think that relaxing and solving the problems that cause me anxiety and nervousness, will work better for me.

Hope you find what youre looking for.

NO solution but I know how you feel. Been that way my entire adult life. I pick myself to pieces. Not sure what to do....I only stop when I make the conscious effort to stop. Sometimes I will take a warm wet washcloth and wipe the area with it. Give you some relief from the "itching" and is less abrasive.

Sorry, wish I could be more helpful Itching

Good luck!

Have you tried oatmeal baths? This also relaxes you at the same time. If you don't have commercial oatmeal bath salts, you can make your own... it doesn't take much oatmeal. Tie it in a sock ---don't dump it into the bath water or you'll end up taking umpteen showers to get clean... and forever to clear the tub and drain lol

Put a 1/2 cup or less in a sock and tie it up... let it soak in the tub water for a few minutes and get in!!! It's worked for hives for ages... and allergic itches too...

And don't discount allergy too fast. Anything can cause an allergic reaction, and as your body ages, things change... including hormones and other chemicals your body produces. That it happens when you are stressed could mean it's a histamine type reaction, or adrenalin.

What does your MD say?

I get itchy when I'm stressed too, to the point that it looks like I have 3rd-degree burns because I redden the skin so much. Right now I have had rashes and been scratching myself to death since August. Pdoc ruled out med allergies, family doc said "hell, I dunno" and is sending me to a dermatologist. I go Thursday. Since my head is covered too, I think it's psoriasis or eczema or something, but I dunno. It started when I was out in the sun for an hour with no sunscreen -- one of my meds causes photosensitivity, so that's what started the ball rolling.

I have to agree with whoever told you NOT TO DUMP THE OATMEAL IN THE BATHTUB. :-) Made that mistake once and it took me a week to get the tub clean! LOL But it does help stop the itching for a bit. You can buy packets of it at Walgreens for a few bucks.

There's a vitamin that might just do the trick, and pronto. Niacinamide (be very careful that you get the -amide form of B3) is a natural antihistamine. It blocks a process called mast cell degranulation, the histamine-releasing process that can cause itching, hives, runny nose, etc. You can safely take 500 mg, up to four times a day. Works in 20 minutes (if histamine is the problem).

I got exactly the same from my doctor. LoL. The only good thing is that the benadryl seems to make me drowsy at night so I sleep better.

I am alergic to many soaps and shampoos with perfume in them. I know that may times after a shower I will itch because of them.
Can be what you wash your cloths with too.

Hi there,
I get dermatitis often (from over dry hands) when this flares up I scratch sometimes till they bleed and then later they are dry and cracked.
Sometimes before the itch starts I'll get little tiny blister type things.
I use by prescription Diprolene, the one I have is a gel and dries quickly, and instant relief Itching
Try asking your doctor for a prescription, it is great stuff, believe me over the years I tried everything.
Lots of luck with this.

BTW Happy New Year Itching
