I've been alternating between taking the celexa at the prescribed does and doubling it. I found that when I do double dose, I feel better, calmer, but more tired and sleepier. When I didn't double dose, I had to have a drink at work - to feel better. So, I'm wondering... which is it better to double dose, or take the chance with the prescribed dose, and only have a drink when i need it?

Heck, I don't know why i asked this question, but since i typed it, might as well. im running out of energy to cope.

I personally would take the dosage prescribed, and discuss your findings with your doc, maybe you just need a change in dosage, it is best to check than risk things.
I had been on Celexa a few years ago, unfortunately I had SSRI's "poop out" then my type of meds were changed, but I must say when I first started with Celexa, my depression lifted for almost 2 years, this sort of thing happens with some people.
I definately feel you should consult with the prescribing doc about your med(s) and dosages.
Please take care,

DE

Doseage is everything. The starting dose of Celexa is usually 20mg, the high dose is probably 40mg. Lexapro is the improved version, exactly twice as potent (for complicated chemical reasons). Some people report an immediate calming effect of taking a higher dose, this is probably more of a side effect instead of a therapeutic effect of the antidepressant action as that generally takes another 2-4 weeks to develop when increasing dose from a lower dose. Celexa is now generic I believe as well.

I don't see my doc for a few more weeks. I only see him once a month for about half an hour. My prescribed dose is 20mg, so 40mg works for me. Wish it didn't have the sleepiness side affects.

At night I take Seroquel before bed, and that helps me at night.

I also found that celexa's calming effects helps my anxiety and anger, and the anger is what I'm having most trouble with right now. Don't mess with me on the road - I get very mad, almost rage. Celexa
