Has anyone tried this?

I did a couple of years ago with some issues I was having with my sister. She was having some problems which were spilling out into the entire family. I was so obsessively worried that I couldn't sleep or think of anything else.

At the same time I came across a site on eft and found a therapist who used eft. My initial thought that it was a ridiculous. I have studied psychology and this looked like hocus pocus to me. Well, the session was free, cause I was able to claim on medicare.

I went, I did a series of tappings with my fingers over my face, said what sounded like affirmations and I left. I thought it was the strangest thing I have ever done and of course it wouldn't work. I was so dead against it, it took me a couple of months to realise that I had been sleeping full nights, and I wasn't obsessing about my sister's situation.

I haven't been back since, he lives three hours north from me. Perhaps I should go back though, there are a couple of things I could deal with.

I won't say it cures all, but of all the types of psych treatments I have had, it has been the best. I have had no relapses since either, and it has generalised into other areas of my life. Not bad for a simple two hour session of tapping my face. Weird but wonderful.

I don't know what this technique is. I do recall hearing something about a technique that used tapping over different parts of the face. Sorry I don't recall anything more.

I tried this technique one time. We didn't tap on my face, because I have a nerve disorder on my face which is painful (trigeminal neuralgia). But we tapped on my hands and wrists, I remember. I knew somebody who was a practitioner of this who also does therapeutic hypnosis. She thought it was a very helpful practice. For me, I did not experience a benefit from it, but I have a hunch it may be something like EMDR - that somehow it provides some distraction while you are processing things perhaps (not sure). If it was helpful for you, and you are able to try it again, I hope you can do so. The person I met said the goal is for people to learn to do it for themselves, independently, and use it wherever they are, which is a nice benefit if you find it helpful.

sounds a bit like freuds first attempts at healing when he'd put pressure on the patients forehead and release it hoping to release block emotions...this was before he discovered free assocition...feeling good doesnt necesarly lead to lasting internal change and serious question the merits in such therapies.

I once told my T all about what I had read on EFT, and she looked so dubious, and went so silent, that I gather she didn't have a lot of confidence in the method. IDK, different things work for different people I guess. Thinking back on it, what I remember reading about EFT now seems a little reminiscent now of the rapid-eye desensitization thing (I can never remember the acronym). Sort of a T-distracts-you-while-exploring-your-dangerous-waters method, if I can put it that way.
