I am so frustrated with my school counseling center. I have been there once before, and the counselor I saw was actually a woman who had hit me in a small car accident (her fault) a month before. She seemed nice then, so I just saw her anyway.
Then after, I just didn't feel like she was the right fit for me, so I didn't go back. She kind of pissed me off. She just looked at me and said "just quit the cutting" like it was so easy just to say OKAY! If I wanted that I would just talk to my mother.

So anyway, I was finally working up the courage to set up an appointment to talk about my suspected borderline personality disorder, and I asked to see another counselor.

Their response: Well, we have to talk to her (counselor I already saw) to see if thats okay.

I then refused to give her my name to set up an appointment and hung up.

WTF! Can't I as the patient just say I'm not comfortable seeing her, without having to report me to her and get HER "ok"?

I'm so upset and angry right now.

Not in a free school counseling center. That's too bad, amber. I did the counseling center in college too and they didn't have the best counselors; it worked for a bit, to tide me over but I'd see if you can save some money and go see a "real" therapist in town or see if you can ask your parents this summer for some help with finding someone to see for a bit near home?

Can you possible use the car accident to your advantage and say that it won'i really work out with her because you have had issues out side of counseling but in and about school that doesn't make it appropriate to continue seeing her.(Is the car insurance issue settled?)It is just a suggestion. She doesn't sound like someone who understands the nature of an illness that involves SI.
Sorry your options are so limited. How about any services in the city that you go to school on? Good luck.

I'm married, and I live in the town I go to school in. I'm going through the process of getting approved for gastric bypass surgery which is the #1 most important thing in my life right now, and I don't want to do anyting to jeopordize that.
Therefore, I can't really go through my doctor and my own insurance right now to get help. I was planning on using the counseling center as a tool to get me through until after my surgery when I can go through my own insurance.
The couseling center won't budge on getting her approval for the transfer first, so it looks like I'm just going to have to deal with my issues myself for a little while longer.

Oh, that's tough. The school counseling center probably wouldn't be very useful for you, being an adult, anyway. I belong to a large, reputable, online group, Spark People, and you might want to join that (it's free) and join a few teams related to your issues (a whole lot of choices). The people there understand very well.
