...you PAY for your Therapy and yet you feel you have to be greatful for every little bit of humanity your T shows you?!! It's as if they are god and you should be greatful to be in their presense! The fact you pay means nothing really! Yet if you didn't pay they would just remove themselves all together!

(im angry at the moment so i know my emotions are over charged) but does it ever bother you?

learning: FYI, dizgirl's other thread about her awful session and having to leave her T explains her anger.

Yes, Dizgirl. I have felt this way MANY of times. The last time that I went through a breakdown and was VERY suicidal, I called a therapist that was recommended to me. She WOULD NOT see me unless I could pay $125.00/hr. Here I was VERY suffering and was having trouble staying alive, but if I could not pay the $125/hr. then I was garbage and my life was not worth saving to her. I told my minister and luckily he set me up with someone to talk to in the church for FREE. That person really saved my life. She cared enough to meet with me all the time and never charged a dime. She did it out of COMPASSION.
Thanks for this!

Hey Sillyself,

that sounds like an awful feeling and experience...that you were not worth saving unless you could pay that price! however that is not true at all because you are more precious than anything money could buy!
It annoys me that when we pay T's we still feel we have no real say in our treatment, that theres still a major power embalance because they get to decide a lot of things, yet if we didn't pay then they wouldnt bother at all - so the ball is always in their court really isn't it?

I am so sorry you feel like this. You should be directing your therapy. You t can make suggestions, ask questions and try to steer you in the right direction, but ultimately you are in charge.

Actually, the ball is always in our court if you ask me. We can fire our therapist. Yes, they decide on the course of treatment, but we can decide whether to accept it or not.

I think we pay for a lot of things, but the compassion and desire to see us heal we get from our therapists is not among them.

I mean we pay for time - a guarenteed time for us - we pay for a place, we pay for training, and sometimes we pay for those who can't afford their services so they can get it for a reduced price. We pay for them to be present with us.

So, I don't feel angry at the fact I pay my therapist. Sure, i would rather not, but it doesn't bother me to pay for things I value.

Yes. Sometimes I feel like I can't really tell my t how I feel if I don't like something that is going on because I feel like I'm high maintenance and can't ask for "more". Yet, my T encourages me to stand up for myself in therapy, so I know it is just me.

Fortunately I don't have to pay to see my T as it is covered under provincial health care in Canada. However I can understand why you may feel like that.
