if you ask your therapist a direct question about your therapy/treatment, are they allowed to lie or must they tell you the truth?

if anyone has any information, please let me know. thank you in advance.

Lying isn't a healthy behavior. So, I don't think a therapist would lie. Though I'm not sure what kind of question you're thinking of.

Should a therapist lie? Probably not. Are they allowed? I'm kind of stuck on this. "Allowed"? Allowed to lie to the client? Allowed to lie to another provider? It would be a mess if they did. I can't see why one would lie about that.

Lying about treatment. Again I'm stuck on what kind of question. I can't think of a reason a lie would be necessary but maybe I'm missing something.

thank you for the response, stormyangels. i was trying to ask without giving too much information, but i guess i'm not going to get a real answer unless i ask a real question..

i just found out something about my therapy that is totally blowing my mind. it's basically the circumstances under which i started treatment. i thought it was one way, and now it's looking like it was actually a totally other way. i plan to ask my therapist which way is the truth, and i wanted to know what her "obligations" might be to answer me truthfully (if at all).

i should add that i totally respect and adore this therapist and, until now, trusted her completely. now i'm just beginning to wonder if i was way off base, or if i'm making something out of nothing. i know i won't know for sure until i check it out, but i just wanted to have some idea before i go to my session.

thanks again in advance for any feedback.

outright lie...I think it would be wrong.....half truths however may be necessary in some instances. My original treatment plan with t focused on communication and my ineptness. Turns out he was more focused on trauma history but he didn't want to freak me out in those initial consults so he left it simply with "communication issues".

i'm glad you started it anyway, even just to allay your concerns until you checked with your T.
Thanks for this!
