I wondered if many therapists know about this forum or even visit it? That's a bit of a scary thought for me.

I wonder if they learn lots from here about how clients think and feel?

When I started therapy with the current t, I asked if he reads "places where people post about their therapy online." He said no. I'm trusting that means he wouldn't- not that he'd be likely to do it anyway. I do think it would be unethical for a t to read a client's post, if they realized they were doing it, without telling the client.
Thanks for this!

I told a T friend of mine how much I like it, and she was not interested at all. She said she gets enough of it all day. When I was working as a computer programmer, I had NO DESIRE to have a home computer AT ALL. People were telling me how cool the internet was, etc. I was like, I sit at a computer ALL DAY LONG, I am NOT going to go home and do it some more! Somebody asked Joe Buck, the Fox sports announcer, live on TV, if he watched sports at home, and he could not hide his derision. Awkward! So I would guess, for the most part, no. I think that what WE learn from PC, they already know. A lot of this is bunny hill stuff (as opposed to Benny Hill stuff) - resistance, transference, projection. IMO.

I really really believe they have better things to do. They have to listen to people all day. Why would they come here without needing to and not get paid for it on top of it. Naaah, I think you don't have to worry.

There are other ways for T's to get more information. Most don't have the time to frequent forums, etc. There are different forums on different domains specifically for professionals if they want support. I belonged to PC before I got my master's and came here for support, thus I never really left. PC is a good distraction for me when I need one, especially because I too am in therapy. Though I do like when I run across other T's on the boards.

I believe most T's don't bother to or don't care to come here. I am a therapist myself, but I come here as a client. It has nothing to do with clients I see and everything to do with my own feelings as a client in therapy .

yes there are therapists here at psych central. if you look at the bottom of the forum boards page you will find forums for those mental health providers that are here on psych central. there are also social groups here on psych central for therapists and other mental health providers.

plus many mental health providers start out with having problems of their own and through their own work on their self decide to go into the mental health field. there are many of these such members here that have made that decision.

Some psych central members come here because their own therapists and other treatment providers have recommended psych central to their clients, in order to recommend psych central to their clients the treatment providers must have heard about this place and visit the place to see what its like. I cant see any ethical treatment provider recommending for their clients something they havent checked out and been a part of.

my therapist recommended this place to me and does frequent the site.

I am a therapist and Im here when I can be.

I have gone to workshops and seminars for mental health providers including therapists and this site has been recommended by the speakers, and other fellow therapists and other treatment providers.

I have also recommended this place to my fellow co workers at the crisis center and city hospital and know that some of these mental health providers come here and to the forums set up for mental health providers on the forum page.

we therapists are here. Some like me have chosen to participate here without hiding our professions and some dont disclose their professions, just like a majority of the non mental providers members I know here dont disclose their work, career labels.

whether or not we disclose our professions is a personal choice but we are here.

speaking for myself I came here on the recommendation of my therapist in hopes of finding others in the integration process with DID and when I did not find what I was looking for and at the urging of some members here I stay to help others through where I have already been, like the saying goes - helping others most times ends up helping ones self.

I do also recommend this place for my clients.

also if you look in the forums where you can read the rules and ask questions about the site you will find some informative threads that explain psych central is open to the public and is searchable with google. that right there tells me it doesnt matter what the profession, problem, level of education, race religion what have you, everyone is welcome at psych central. to me that includes mental health providers.

there are all kinds of people here from all walks of life and mental disorder, race, religion, handicap, and profession......

my opinion the real world off line could learn a thing or two from psych central about how to get along in a world of such diversity.

Thanks for this!

I would think T's want to do pretty much anything but come on this type of forum in their free time. Do you like to do the work you do during the day when you come home at night? Not me.

My T spends his free time riding his bicycle, fishing, playing with his grandchildren, playing with his dog, reading. On occasion he teaches a seminar in the evenings for other therapists or goes to seminars himself. He spends very little time on the computer as he has a vision issue that makes reading things a bit of a chore.

Yes! Exactly! One would hope. However sometimes people will say how their Ts like In Treatment and other stuff outside work, so it's enough to make you wonder...

My T knows about PC, but told me she has never been on it. Kind of makes me feel better knowing T isn't on here. I would feel like I'd have to be careful about what I say

I told T and pdoc about the forum and neither one had much interest. Pdoc thinks I should be careful and T wants me to ask questions if things are not clear after reading on the forum. As an RN, my professors think that healthcare workers should be aware of the internet and the healthcare resources available to patients and families. They say we need to be armed with healthcare information on the internet. I agree, we need to know what information is available and direct people to every learning opportunity available.

I doubt my T knows this forum exist but perhaps. She is so technologically disabled though that I wonder if she'd be capable of coming to this website, figuring out who I am, and then going through all my posts.

I guess we probably don't really care if a 'lot' of T's come to this site; we're more interested if OUR T visits it. I am almost 100% certain that my T does not. At least not to the forums dedicated to clients. PC has other resources for T's that I'm sure many T's access. So, just ask yourself if your T is likely to read therapy forums. That is the most important. And, if not sure, ask your T if it's important for you to know. My T knows I visit a forum. I haven't told her which one though and she didn't express much interest in knowing either.

asiablue and crazycanbegood and others that may have found my post scarey / offensive because I was answering whether we mental health providers are here with the affirmative yes we are here -

psych central is a mental health website. it stands to reason on a mental health website you are going to find mental health providers as a part of the membership.

if I remember right it is in the registration information and in the forum policy that psych central is a mental health website and open to everyone.

this topic of mental health providers being here on psych central comes up frequently either because

someone discovers their own therapist, Pdoc and their other mental health providers here,

When someone realizes some of the membership names have the words "doc" "Doctor" "Dr' "Pdoc" "T" "Therapist" "Counselor" and others designating they are mental health providers..

when Someone asks about therapraxis and the other boards that are for mental health providers..

when Someone discovers there is a forum board designated as DocClydes forum board where members can get answers from a mental health provider..

when Someone discovers they can enter the "ask a therapist" page and submit questions to therapists and other mental health providers

and even when someone finds my posts where I am open about my being a therapist and why I am here..

All these and many more discussions like this has been going on here at psych central boards for .. well Ive been here now for little over 2 years and there are posts I have found discussing these things dating back farther than that.

each time these discussions come up the moderators and administrators admit psych central is open to all people including these we may fear or not want here reading and participating in psych central. To be sure to protect yourselves by changing your passwords, choosing names for your selves that will protect your identities and dont post anything you dont feel comfortable about posting, in case someone you know finds psych central.

if you need a new name you can pm the moderators and the administrators. they will help you get a name to protect your identities. they can also delete any postings you may have made that will give away your psych central identity to people you dont want to discover you here like your family, friends and treatment providers.

My T is aware of it. I'm not sure if she was aware or not before I told her though. I share all the good ideas I get here and get her input on them.

amandalouise, I was aware that mental health care providers come here, but I did not know that the site and forum were so popular in the profession.

I don't think my T would frequent this board, as she doesn't have enough time to return my calls sometimes. BUT, if the site is very popular, I suppose it is possible that she could one day wander into this forum, see a post written by me, and exclaim, "HEY I KNOW THAT CRAZY!"
Thanks for this!
