so I wake up, have some coffee and get ready for my normal 11 AM Monday T appointment. I'm feelin' pretty good, sunny day, maybe some good things happening in my life if I don't screw up. And I get there and they're closed!!!!! They didn't tell me! I guess I should have realized, but in case no one noticed....I'M MENTALLY ILL!!!! And this means that they'll be closed NEXT week too...

I know it seems like a small thing, but it amounts to 25 or 30 % of my total social contact each week...

I'm just going to move to the other side of the island! I'm a lone wolf!!!! Owwwwooooo!!!!

(( DaveyJones)) I don't think it a small thing at all..I was wishing to see my T this week and they are closed down but at least he told me....They did this near Thanksgiving the whole clinic closed a week...I know they are human but....they all take weeks off for vacation in the year..You would think doctors and T's would be around more between the holidays and at least TELL you when they are not..that stinks...sorry

So sorry that they didnt tell you that they were closed..dont get that one...it is not a small thing...I am sorry that you will not be able to go there for 2 weeks..keeping thoughts of you, and trusting that this week and next will go quickly by...take gentle care of yourself...

Well, you know, the whole thing kind of threw me for a loop...I had my day all laid out around the appointment. I realized that the other offices I was going to visit were all closed too...I managed to do some things to ward off a big nasty sad spell, but I have enough trouble getting things done as it is.

As long as I have you guys, I'll be OK

That was very inconsiderate of them to not notify you they would be closed. Maybe you could call them tomorrow and see if they can see you later in the week for these two weeks. Your attitude is more forgiving than I think I would be.

Would it be considered bad form to leave a note on their door?

(I'm joking, of course).

This just stinks. Why the hell couldnt they tell you. Like you Im not having much social contact at the moment and T is important. If they close on the Monday they should have arranged to see you another day. Can you call in maybe wednesday (thats if they are open) and ask what the hell you are supposed to do.

Hi Davey,
I'm Sherri. I can just imagine I'd feel the same way if that happened to me cause I have the same social situation. I agree with Bipolar Bear that it was very inconsiderate of them not to let you know ahead of time cause as a patient, you have the right to know these things.

Hi Davey,

If you're allowed to call the center where you have therapy, I'd do so, and leave a message. Even if they're closed this week, they may be checking messages, and you can check in. If they're just closed on Mondays, maybe they can fit you in on another day. If they're closed for a longer time, like the whole week, maybe they can at least touch base with you by telephone. It's a long time, especially when they didn't explain before the holidays that you wouldn't be able to keep your regular schedule. I think calling them is very appropriate. Or email, if you're allowed to email your therapist.

So sorry this happened - that's really confusing and upsetting....I hope the day got better after that!

Take care,
ErinBear

therapy agencies in the united states have an on call emergency number. The client calls the office number where you recieve treatment and those phones automatically route the call to the on call personnel. Under extreme emrgencies the on call person call and will put in a call to the persons therapist. The national suicide hotline works 24/7 so you also have that option. and worse case scenerio there is your local ER. I have used them also. All you have to do is walk in the ER and tell the receptionist you need to speak to the staff psychiatrist that is on call. There are also local crisis centers that can help you also. take care.

Thanks for all the wonderful support! Y'all know how to make a man feel good!

I was able to get appointments for this week and next on Wednesdays, so I'll be OK. I was just griping the other day. It's like my life has become so ...empty? that the whole thing really threw me for a loop...I have so much trouble thinking ahead and executing and figuring out what to do anymore...it's really distressing.

It wasn't always that way...used to I could confront almost any sort of emergency or adverse circumstance calmly with a reasonable plan of action almost instantly. Now it's a major deal to make a to-do list, much less get it done.

And so I've spent the time doing not too much, going to flea markets to look for old tools (no real luck yet). Or sitting around here wishing there were someone to talk to, or to hold. or to hold me...

I hate it when people do that! Like I was scheduled to go to partial one day that it snowed really bad...the roads didn't look so bad so I waited and waited and waited for county transportation to pick me up. After waiting an hour I called county transportation....and they were closed due to the weather! It would've been nice if they had told us...or at least called!

I can totally relate.

Exactly!!! And the secretary today today was going...."Gee...I guess you'll need one next week too!!!"

It all goes to show that God has a cruel sense of humor...why else would he make the sick people who can't functrion smart, and leave the dopes to run the show...shouldn't we be taking care of them?????
