I'm sorry, Athena, I was out of line saying that. I am not well-spoken; I truly am one of the illiterate programmers of whom I speak, even tho I do actually read books. I think I understand now why my T always apologizes before he uses a big word - I don't speak as if I would understand him. I complain a lot that I am not as articulate as other writers here, but this episode really demonstrated something to me. I'm not sure how to, or if I can change / improve this. Thank you for this insight, and thank you for not getting too offended, as would certainly have been your right for my boorish behavior. ?

Maybe itd be helpful to think about all the things we are good at too? It isnt just Ts who are accomplished. I am pretty accomplished in my field too and well known. But its pointless to compare ourselves to other people. We are all individuals.
Thanks for this!

Ha! When somebody says "No offence...", I figure I've just been offended. What I really thought was that you were pointing out that I couldn't come up with a witty way to get it out of him...Which would be correct. Sometimes I go brain dead and my sense of humour is non-existent in therapy. Transference is live and well right in the therapists' office - I never could joke around with my family - they made me too nervous and crazy. Anyway, it's peeking out these days as I am getting somewhat more at ease with my T. Could probably use some coaching lessons from you though.

Anyway, no biggie - if I got upset over this trivial thing, I never would have survived this long. But I do thank you for the apology...

My humor is totally a defense. If things are going well, I can't make a joke to save my life - but if things ARE going well, I don't have to, do I?!

I've always managed to choose down to earth T's.

First T: Has never done any kind of special work outside her practice. When she was obtaining her masters, she actually worked as a direct care staff in the facility I work at now (before I worked here).

Second T: Is involved in the local midwifery movement. She saw me as a fellow mental health professional. The type of therapy she did with me is relatively new and one of the developers is her supervisor. She wanted to add several insights I had into the process into the curriculum. She also wanted to film some of our sessions for the developers to use in training, but I refused. I didn't want my story bandied about.

Current T: Previously taught classes at the local hospital about emotional issues related to heart problems (disease, attacks, etc.). Was involved in WomenHeart and the Red Dress Project related to heart disease. Also sees me as a fellow mental health professional. However, she has been careful to let me know that she is human like me. She keeps telling me I'm going to tell my story one day. In front of a group of people. Verbally. Apparently, she doesn't believe me when I tell her I HATE PUBLIC SPEAKING!!!!!!!

None of my the two T's have ever went into detail about their accomplishments but, I can definitley understand how this would make you feel like that. A lot of times I feel like the T doesn't see me as an equal person because I'm the one sharing all my items from "pandora's box" I'm the one crying and babbling... they are the ones to appear okay. but, apperance isn't everything... everyone has their skeletions in their closet, accomplished or not accomplished we are all humans who make mistakes. I hope this gets better for you soon

Thanks Jazzy!
I am feeling better now because I've been occupied with other things, so I'm not feeling the need for t so much. Therapy/ist is in my mind now and then, but the neediness I sometimes feel after a less-than-supportive session isn't there now.
