Lola's post today got me thinking.. It didn't seem to take very long for Lola to get into to see a new T. I was suprised by that b/c when I was first trying to get in, many Ts were not taking new patients at all whether not I had some kind of referral or not.

When, I finally was able to get into the office I am at now (I started with a different T for two or three sessions before he was out for medical leave) it took 4 months to get an appointment. Then, when the first T ended up leaving on medical leave it took another 4 months to get in with my current T. I am wondering if that is the norm? Now, that I am in.. I am feeling taken care of even though they are busy.. So, it doesn't bother me now, but I have to admit I was a bit turned of by the wait times. What was everyone else experience??

I called my current T to set up an appointment the week before Christmas. He was on vacation until the Monday after New Year's. I got an appointment for that Thursday and have since seen him every Thursday since then. I was lucky - he'd had a couple of clients terminate just before the holidays.

I have met with a lot of them this year and there was only one that it took more than a week and part of the hold up was my schedule and because it was during a period of several holidays bunched together.

I asked if she was free Wed or Thurs. She replied tuesday morning said nothing wed or thurs but was free after x pm that day!!!!!!

I received a referral on a Thursday, called for an appointment Friday, and saw my T Monday afternoon. I felt very lucky to get in that quickly.

Sent an email for a phone consultation and got a reply the very next day and a phone call the day after that. Had my first appointment within a week of that initial phone call.

I don't remember but I feel like we made an appointment for the following week. For my current pdoc, it took 1.5 months, maybe longer.

I called on a Friday and was given an appt for the following Wed. They did offer me two other walk-in crisis times if I needed to be seen on Monday instead. I went on Wed.

With my first two T's I literally saw them the same day the inquiry was made. In the first case I had a friend who personally arranged the meeting as a professional courtesy. In the second case he was actually my pastor (and a licensed pastoral counselor) who asked me to come see him because of things he noticed about me.

My appointment with my current therapist occurred about three days or so after I made the inquiry.

I can't recall for sure, but probably about a month. Now, I see her every week, and am scheduled about 6 weeks out. If I don't schedule that far in advance, she is booked, so I just make sure to stay scheduled way in advance

Seems I called on a Monday or Tuesday and had my first appointment on that Friday.

My T was already seeing my in laws, and had apparently already heard about me and how depressed I was, so he got me in right away even though he's busy.

Two and a half weeks tops--any longer and it was due to the fact that they weren't taking new patients!

It was 1-2 months before I could get in to see my T. I looked through many different profiles, and I kept coming back to his.

Now I have to schedule about two months in advance to get the time slot I need (which is annoying).

Called one day, got in to see T the next day - which was really rather unusual! From there I wasn't able to get a standing appointment for a few weeks due to Ts schedule, that took about a month. Now I have my standing appointments which is incredibly helpful, as I don't need to spend any time talking about the schedule - just the occasional holiday hiccup- otherwise it's same time, same place, every week, which I like and need the consistency and reliability that provides.

I failed to mention I took the bull by the horns and called up the phycologist xT referred me too and insisted on speaking to her before our appointment that was 1 month away. She responded and I told her my needs, she said she would help me get in with someone who wasn't as busy as she was ( she sees most patience once every 3 weeks ). I don't like taking no for an answer so I called around , it took me a few days and I scheduled and cancelled a bunch of appointments in between until I found a few that were willing to see me immediately. Thank goodness xT's referral was nice she facilitated this for me. I called their office today to confirm appointment and the receptionist already knows " your in our system" and I haven't even been their yet! I can already tell I am going to hate receptionist!
Thanks for this!

From my very first call to my actual first appointment with T, it took about 2 months. (I almost gave up in the meantime though because it took her so long to call me back - she was very busy).

I'm surprised to hear others "got in" so quickly. Maybe this is specific to my country, but I always hear people having to wait up to 6 months for a permanent spot is not at all unusual. Anyway, I consider myself lucky I got in rather quickly in comparison.

Depends on client flexibility and availability of appointments. Right now Im booked solid. Typically: If they can come it at say, 11am I could see them in a week. If they need afternoon (2 or later) its at least 1-2 months. 5p is 6-8'months.

Hmmm.. very interesting. I have heard a theory that is it so hard to get into see a thearpist around her b/c we live right next to an Army base.. one of the most deployed bases in the U.S.. and we are having a lot of soliders comes back with issues with PTSD and other things. And we live in a rural area, with not as many options as a bigger city with present. Thanks for your responses.
