This has happened to me three times:

T-2 appeared in a dream and said, "I have to challenge you or you won't grow."

T appeared in a dream and said, "When you get in trouble in chess, you make a couple of bold, foolish moves and then resign. That's not chess and that's not life. I want you to play all your games through to the end."

And in another dream T said, "You have to learn to lose. Because one day you will lose and there will be nothing you can do about it."

Has anyone else had similar experiences?

I have had dreams with my T in them. Unfortunately, I can't remember what she said to me. I think she may have hugged me or something like that... not 100% sure though. It is always a good dream when T appears

I had a dream where I was in session and T turned into a Trex mid sentence. I woke up laughing. He just stayed there talking. LOL.

Yes! But I've never told T about it.

We had a session in a swimming pool, like the one they hold races in. It was a very odd dream. The only thing I remember t saying to me was that I had to let go of that letter. Somehow I was swimming with an envelope but it was completely dry. Hmmmm.... the more I think about this, perhaps this is a topic for a session. Or at least I need to do some more thinking about what that dream really meant.

Not to get off topic, but your post has me thinking about what kind of dinosaur my t would turn into.

I had several dreams about T1, many of them chillingly negative. But she never really appeared; I would know she was there, or sometimes there would be someone unseen standing just behind my shoulder pointing something out.

I've only been with T2 for three months, have dreamed about her twice. Once I went to her consulting room door and it was closed; the usual DoNotDisturb sign was not out, and I knew she was in there alone; I wanted so much to knock but I figured I had no right, and went away without making my presence known.

The other time I dreamed she sent me two emails but I never found out what they said.

She'll show up again, I'm sure of it.

This is a fascinating thread, CantExplain, I hope lots of people reply to it!

(Sorry CE about the dinosaur digression.)

Anyway, I have had a recurring dream where I am trying to find T (sometimes it is my old T; sometimes it's my current T) but I can't find him. I only have that dream when my mood is shifting into a depressive episode. I take it as an indication that I need to pay attention to myself and watch for problems.

I've never had a dream where we were actually interacting though.

First dream: I was trying to figure out where a flock of scary birds came from. T walked up and threw a blanket over me. I remember happily thinking that he'd help me figure it out later. I was so relieved and relaxed.

Second dream: I was in a small cot, in massive pain, trying to figure out what was wrong. I was deciding that I'd had a hysterectomy when T came up and gently covered me up with a blanket. This time I got all pissed off and said that I didn't want to see T; I only wanted to see my Weight Watchers Leader. Nice. This is a perfect example of how I sabotage myself.

Twice.

The first time, my husband and I had decided to renew our wedding vows (in an elaborate ceremony similar to our wedding...would NOT do that in real life). This time, we had a receiving line and when T got to me, she hugged me tightly and said, "You are doing the right thing! I'm so happy!" then walked away.

The second time, I was waiting in her waiting room (which has three windows that were missing in the dream). She triple-booked the hour I was there. She picked one of the other ladies, saying she'd booked her first. The other lady not chosen just huffed and walked out. I had a file folder of papers. I went back to T's office and threw the folder at the door, let out a string of expletives, and vowed never to return. I walked out of the practice and sat on the first level of stairs and cried.

Yes.
When I first was seeing T1, maybe after 3-4 sessions, I had a dream where I met her at a restaurant with her H and her H said to her, I thought you weren't supposed to be friends with your clients? Then the dream took a weird turn where we ended up outside the place outrunning a tornado......
A dream later where my oldest son was with me in her office, playing with toys in a corner, and she said to me in the course of our conversation, this just isn't working very well. And that wasn't but 2-3 months into our time as client/T (it was a year total before she terminated me, and told me on the phone while I was in the hosp., it just isn't working!) Must have been some sort of crystal ball sort of dream, huh, even when things seemed to be going quite well at that time really ... it was before she even began to hug me.
There were other dreams I remember not so well.
A dream or two about T2.....in one she said to me, I like you but I don't like you, somewhere in the middle of some sort of explanation about how Ts were supposed to feel about their clients vs how they did and the conflict..... I suppose that dream has to do with me wondering if she really does like me or not ..... or if she just liked working with me and found me interesting but means that she wouldn't like me in real life. whatever!

I have a recurring dream where I go to a therapist's office and know something is a little off but am not sure what, then I talk to the person in the office although they are not quite right and near the end of the dream appointment, it is discovered we do not know each other, it is not my usual therapist but neither of us was positive we had not met until the end. No one knows where the one I am supposed to see is or they have never heard of her.

The other dream is where I go to therapist's office and it is in some odd place, like an old shop with dust and cracked furniture or an old soda fountain (I am not old enough to have gone to 50's type soda fountains) or an office where you have to go get to it in odd ways and there is someone there, but it is not the therapist, they tell me something about the therapist being unable to be there or to wait but therapist never shows up.

I get these as recurring dreams that will last over several days and then go away and then come back.

I dream about T fairly often- maybe because I sometimes fall asleep listening to some stories she recorded for me. They're not particularly memorable though, and she doesn't say anything deep and meaningful! I'll have to get onto her about that

Fairly recently she texted me one morning saying ' I hope it's not too early'. It woke me up and I remember replying 'No, not too early, we were just going ice skating with L!' and then realising how strange that sounded. She replied without missing a beat 'Glad you had nice dreams'

*random incorrect initial for T's child

I still get T in my dreams and haven't seen her for almost 7 years.

I love your chess dream

I had a dream where T and I were eating outdoors at a restaurant next to a river and a Brontosaurus suddenly rose up out of the middle, peacefully chewing its vegetation. Do you suppose that had anything to do with the "past"? LOL

I've dreamed about my T twice. The first time was right after I first mentioned the sexual abuse. I dreamed I was in the waiting room and other people I didn't know were there also. T came out and said my name, and then started talking to me about my actual issues there in the waiting room, in front of everyone.

In the other dream where he appeared, I was trying to help protect my best friend from her ex-husband. There was a projection on a screen in the middle of this room, of the ex pointing a gun at at my friend and at me and another friend, J. J and I both had guns and were trying to keep an eye out for the ex actually appearing. In the dream I was confused because obviously, this was just a projection and I didn't know why the ex was doing this and kept waiting for him to appear in reality with a gun. Then the ex stepped out from behind the screen and said that he never had a gun and the danger "is always from people you actually trust." I turned around and women I knew from high school and college were standing there pointing guns at me. My friend whose ex it actually is, and J put their guns down and just walked away and left me there alone.

My husband was standing behind me also, yelling at me about how this was all my fault and I should have known better than to even pick up a gun in the first place. My T was just standing there off to the side watching. I asked my T if he was going to help me and he said no. It's not his job to actually DO anything in my life. He was just there to watch. I woke up sobbing.

The actual therapist I see has never made it to appearing in a dream. Which is kind of less freaky for me because I cannot remember what she looks like when I am awake. If she appeared in my dreams looking like herself, how odd would that be?

What a coincidence! I just had a crazy T dream last night. I apologize in advance for the weirdness.
I got to the office early and realized T had told me on that day there would be a group session with ALL of her clients. oO I hated the thought of being with them all. (I can barely stand even seeing another client before or after me.) I tried going into the room and sitting down (everyone was sitting in a chair circle) but panicked and ran off. Eventually I did go in and sit down. T then threw a cigarette in the middle of the room and asked me "Screenager, what would a weak person say to me in this situation?" ( ) I was like "Um, as a weak person I wouldn't dare criticizing you for throwing the cigarette, I'd just say 'I don't mind'."
Then I realized that among her clients were a former classmate of mine from high school and a local soccer player.
The session also included some people performing rock songs at some point.
Some time later, towards the end of the session, another former classmate of mine showed up. I remember hearing (in the dream universe) that he had an addiction to meds or something. He was in a very bad state and could barely sit without falling down, so I was asked to sit next to him and keep him up.
At the end of the session T started singing some old Backstreet Boys song.
Then I woke up.

Wow - I'm kind of blown away by the wisdom in this. Because it wasn't your T talking, it was YOU. This all came from you, although in the dream you attribute it to T. Good on you! Sounds like you're making great progress.

Yeah, I've had lots of dreams about T, but I've got to go to a meeting at work. Will relate them later today.

Fascinating question (as well as a fascinating chess-dream). Yes, I've had at least three dreams with an appearance by my therapist.

The most vivid of them is actually a recurring nightmare. It usually involves either my mother or my sister, but one night, it was my therapist. The general plot is that I'm having a conversation with the person, and it gets derailed in a dark, frightening way. I always wake up rather shaken.

I woke up from this dream that had suddenly taken place in my therapist's office with my therapist herself, much more distraught than I usually am when I wake up from the dream involving other people. It was especially odd because I hadn't seen her in months (I was at college out of state). It's bizarre, but I believe she was functioning as a shadow-figure of myself.

I've had a few:

I dreamt that I was in session with T, it was not the room I recognise. T looked different too, spiky hair and trendy glasses. T was playing me lots of different music, he was sitting very close to me, right in my personal space. Then I was laying down (fully clothed, there was nothing sexual / erotic about this dream) and my foot was tapping along to some of the music he was playing and I felt more relaxed.

Then my T was laying on top of me (again fully clothed) - T felt really heavy and overbearing - I couldn't breathe very easily and couldn't get T off. I was crying and T didn't notice, just kept laying on me.

Haven't been able to talk to T about it.
