After one session?

Is this beginner's luck?

I can't wait to go back and tell my "coach" that I've already crossed one major barrier.....where I was stuck for so long.

Is it possible that all the scab-picking of traditional therapy really WAS an obstacle for me, and this is a better way to go?

I feel weird...therapy HURT and I was so accustomed to that...that I felt like it must be therapeutic or it wouldn't be so painful.

Does medicine HAVE to taste horrible in order to work?

I think not.

And I think my previous therapy wasgreat for building insight...but I never actually DID anything with that insight. I just "sat with my feelings," which for me was just a lot of wallowing.

I think this life coaching thing is going to allow me to take some risks in my life.

Sorry for the gloating. And I still need to work on that apology thing

Blessings,

MCL

Glad this approach to helping you get what you want seems to be working.

It's therapy without an emphasis on the past, as I understand it.

For me, it's turning out to be a safe place where I can, in a confidential matter, talk about the things in my life that I would like to work on and change. It includes some goal setting, some problem identifying, and a way of charting my course through some blocks that I have.

It's encouraging, but not very analytical. It blends in some fairly mystical stuff like "law of attraction."

So far, it's working like a charm.

but I am very very motivated and not very interested in insight at this point in my life and not as interested in my family of origin issues. those are things I might circle back to in time, but right now, that's not where the action is for me.

Thanks for asking!

This sounds really interesting. Does insurance cover it, just like regular therapy? Do you have to be certified or something to be a life coach, or is it just a sub-specialty that some regular therapists have?

Sorry for all the questions, but I've never heard of this before and I'm interested.

Insurance DOES cover it because my T is a regular T ....who no longer wants to provide "regular" therapy.

I would caution you, however, that "life coaching" is a large umbrella that can encompass all kinds of stuff...like professional organizers, which are good, I guess, but showing people where to stow their stuff in the garage is a far cry from helping people "stow" their "other stuff" correctly.

I'm just pleased that I could find a certified, trained T who was willing to take an approach like the one I need.
Thanks for this!
