In 18 years I think I called my T maybe 6-8 times total (to make/break appointments, too) and only 2 of those were because of an emergency. Neither were very helpful, she just gently did the "we'll talk about this at your next session" after listening to me.

In six years I've probably called my T a dozen times, usually crisis calls, and he's stayed on the phone anywhere from 5 minutes to an hour - never charged me. Sometimes I email in between session once a week - no charge there either. But I don't abuse either privilege - it's only when things are really tough - so I've never been charged or told to stop.

Calling my T for anything is just unacceptable to me. I fear that he'd be half-listening, as he reads through e-mails or paperwork. Not that he doesn't pay attention when we're in session ~ he does. I just fear that talking to him on the phone would be pointless. I'm not willing to put my heart out there for nothing. I'd rather "suck it up" and be miserable until I can see him again.
