My husbands nephew is dying in Intensive care.
He drank himself into a stupor, fell& knocked his head open, his liver and body are ruined by alcohol.
This is how my brother in law died just one year ago.
He is so young.

And my T is still out of town, she wont have time to get online
Until next week to chat again.

I have bern in a deep depression for a while now. And this isnt helping.

I am so sorry, SarahMichelle. Life is SO hard sometimes. I wish your T would come home soon. Do you take or consider taking meds for your depression?

I am so sorry for your husband and his family.
But let me say going off your meds because of weigh gain (if they were helping you cope better and this were their only side effect) is quite- I don't know how to say it without offending you and I really don't want to offend you, just offering my opinion- but I think it's a bit stupid and selfish on your part- your H needs you desperately right know- these ppl are his family.
Weight gain on most meds IS manageable through strict diet and exercise- some meds (like hormones) really can made you gain weight (mostly by water retention) but it's "only" around 10 pounds. However, what some other drugs do is that they make you want to eat more (but you don't have to). It's a common myth that some ADs can magically make you obese.
Think what's more important now some pounds or helping someone you love that need you now?
Please take care

ad's trigger a chemical reaction that decreases metabolism. Yes they can make you magically fat. They also raise blood sugar levels and do all sorts of evil things to the pituitary glands. It is a persons own choice to take or not take medication, and medication isn't the cure all for depression.

I think stupid and selfish are awfully harsh words to use. SarahMichelle is obviously trying her best to deal with many difficult situations right now.
Thanks for this!

You have my support and care in all you're dealing with right now. It's all hard and I know you're trying to do the best you can for yourself and your H and his family.

SarahMichelle,

I was put on psych meds when I was 21 and hospitalized - gained 75 pounds in 10 months. I hugely regret not being more informed by my doctors (at a very good psych hospital) about possible side effects or more cognizant that I was gaining weight in my post-suicide attempt phase. It's now 15 years later - I've NEVER been able to lose this 75 pounds and have even put more on This has majorly affected my life (particularly attractiveness to men, my self-esteem, and my health) and I wish I'd have had enough awareness to go off meds then. Body image and health is very important to someone who struggles with depression, etc. Bravo to you for taking care of yourself and my heart goes out to you having all this come up with your T out of the country. Please do little things for yourself each day.
