So this might be the wrong place to ask this, I'm not sure.
So a few sessions ago(and a few times since then), T suggested Reiki to overcome alot of past stuff. She knows I have an EXTREMELY hard time talking, and she thinks it would be helpful since I wouldn't have to talk, but it is still healing. She says she has done it herself, and has seen 2 other clients improve with it. I'm not sure how I feel about it really. I don't even know much about it!
Does anyone have any experience with it?

Hi Doodle,
I started adding Reiki to my treatment some 10 years ago. It totally changed the course of my treatment drastically for the great! I now work with someone who has training as a therapist, massage therapist, and energy worker as well as a bunch of other things. It is amazing!!! There are so many things that I worked on (painfully) in therapy for years and years with no relief... with my massage T I will notice the memory but not so much that it is uncomfortable or upsetting and then it just goes away and I don't even have to talk about it.
I would suggest giving it a try especially if your T knows someone that she could recommend you go to.
I have level 1 "training" in Reiki if you want to ask questions. I can sometimes miss updates in threads so feel free to PM.
You may also want to re-post this in the alternative healing section. You may get more replies there.

I had a friend who had Reiki therapy when he was dying. Each visit helped him feel more positive energy. His skin and color even looked better. Perhaps it would be worth trying if you think it might help you. If it doesn't help, then you don't need to keep doing it. Sometimes if a person thinks it will help, then it will.

I'm attuned to reiki 1 and 2 and can't recommend it enough.
Thanks for this!

I am trained in level one reiki and hope to do my level 2 soon! I just have a little warning for you this is based on my experience with reiki. Depending on what is wrong with you, physically or emotionally, sometimes things get worse before getting better! I suffer with depression and I hate only had three people work on me and afterwards I went into a long deep depression, it was very scary! It lasted for months at a time, all of the reiki practitioners saying this was normal but I don't want to experience this again as the thoughts and the pain that went with it were over helming! I won't let anyone do reiki on me again! I can do it to others but not on myself! I have seen very positive results on others though:-) it could be worth a try!
Thanks for this!

There haven't been that many scientific studies on Reiki but here's a good one:

thank you for the insights and link!!

at my 2nd session, i learned that resistance can exist not only in the mind, but in the body as well. I am looking forward to seeing what happens in this aspect of my journey. i believe i am more disconnected from my body/energy than i realized.

I'm not sure how someone who massages your feet can help you from overcoming mental illness! Sounds a bit far fetched. I can see it helping you relax but thats about it.

That's reflexology, it's totally different to reiki!

Although I'm generally "Western" in my approach to health, I do think yoga has helped me better appreciate my body/mind connection. I'm very clumsy, and yoga has taught me some things to mitigate this. I also feel like a nicer person when I practice it. Oxytocin probably has something to do with it.

That said, reiki sounds a bit too "woo" to me. But if you get something out of it, that's all that matters.
