I also HATE the sound of my voice and feel like I'm whining the whole time. If someone paid me as much as I pay my T, I'd be more than happy to listen to them whine so this doesn't make me feel bad lol. This is Ts career. You would not feel guilty about having a surgeon perform major surgery on you b/c of the time/effort would you? The recordings have been a huge help in helping me recall sessions and think about certain things during the week which I bring up during the next session. During the week, it also helps me listen to T's voice saying encouraging things. I don't think you should be so hard on yourself. Don't think about how your voice sounds or how T feels about listening to you. Focus on what you're saying and thoughts/feelings about those. I think recording sessions can be very beneficial if tapes are used properly. As for the argument about T recording me without my consent....that really doesn't work in this situation. T's ethical/legal obligations are different than mine. I am free to reveal my T's identity and verbally discuss details of my sessions with anyone I choose. My T cannot do this for obvious reasons. And btw, I have already checked. In my State, it is legal for me to record a conversation I am involved in without the other person's consent. Although realistically, I can't imagine any T pursuing legal action against a client even if this is illegal. Worse case scenario I think a T would simply terminate the client. |
