I have my second session with T2 tomorrow. Not excited.

Monday is my last session with T1. This is so hard. I don't even want to see him because once I get in there I am sure it will be over before I know it. Then we're done. That's it. He'll still be in the same building, the one right my by f'ing house. I just can't go there anymore. Nice.

This really sucks.

Maybe I do want to see him. Once my appointment is over, I no longer have to dread the fact that it will soon be over. Once it is over, I'm already on my way to eventually feeling better about the whole thing.

(((pbutton))) Honor the time you've had with T1 and I hope you can get a good therapeutic trust with T2. Everything takes time (easy to say I know!)

I'm sorry your losing the relationship with T1. I hate, hate hate, hate, HATE mental health reform. It looks like NC is following Kansas' example and the only people who get hurt are the people who need help (and in NC, all case managers are losing their jobs)!!!

pbutton...all I can do is...

Pbutton , it does suck. I'm sorry you are having to go through this. Take some time with T2 to process the entire thing. Keep an open mind , in the end the goal is for you to get better.
Thanks for this!

That's pretty insightful, pbutton. I think you ought to hang tight onto that thought as you forge through the next few days.

I'm kinda in the same splace. Terminated with one therapist and starting with a new.

I miss my old therapist horribly, and spend a lot of the time talking with my new therapist about my old therapist, in addition to other things but that's okay. It hurts, but it's not catastrophic.

FWIW, I really like my new therapist. He's a very kind soul - open and warm.

Although it was forced upon you, this transition doesn't have to be all that bad. Your new T might be okay. Better than okay even.

I hope you had as much luck as I did.

This is one of the things that terrifies me most about engaging in the whole T thing - I guess we have to hang onto faith that this is going to get better and we are all going to emerge from the shadows, strong and able to take on the world - thinking of you right now - Soup

You're right about how afterwards, the thought of it looming will be forever gone.

I'll come with you on Monday, if that's OK.

No words of advice, just sympathy. I would find this transition heartbreaking if it were me, even if I could KNOW in advance that I was transitioning to a T that was even better. It would still hurt immensely to sever the existing bond. But it will get better, and there is a great deal of hope and possibility for your relationship with T2. Stay strong

I appreciate all of the responses. I know my situation is triggering for a lot of people. I really appreciate the support.

I'll be ok. I know it. T1 knows it. We have discussed this at great length. It's just such a sad thing. It's like elliemay said - it hurts, but it's not catastrophic. I am healthy enough that I can keep it from taking over. I am able to use perspective.

Still sucks though.

I still don't want to go talk to T2 today. I think it will be good for me to see him though. I keep generating new "faults" of his. Time for a dose of reality.

pbutton, I just wanted to say again how amazing you are, and how proud I think you should be that you took the initiative to go and find T2 on your own. You ARE healthy! [but still entitled to help and therapy to continue getting better, and totally completely entitled to be however upset you are about therapy with T1 ending.]
Thanks for this!

Thinking of you, pbutton. This just seems so difficult. But if it helps any, it seems like youve got the right attitude...not minimizing it, but not letting it be the end of the world either.

Hang in there, friend.

I'm back from T2 now. It was interesting.

I can't say I enjoy him during the chit-chat appointment-making part of the visit, but he is a good therapist. He picked up on two things while I was talking & he was DEAD on with his comments to me. Props to T2 for knowing his stuff. He also gave me a T's perspective on termination, which was interesting.

He also grasped something about my T1 termination that I have tried to explain to T1 like THREE times now. T2 heard it and explained it back better than I've ever been able to form the thought in my head.

Then we started talking about my goals and he brought up the one goal I hate the most. Not sure if that is good or bad.
