T States the Obvious - a bit of fun

Hi guys!

Last session, my T came up with this gem:
T: Fear is scary

Can anyone top that?

wow, what an insight lol

Maybe 'water's wet,' or 'the sky is blue.'

How many years did it take her to get her degree so she can pass along such profound insight? Tooooo funny!!!

I did once refer to T as "Captain Obvious." He said, "women used to do a lot of housework in the 1950's" (and described some big machine that would iron your sheets and stuff).

I said, "women still do a lot of housework now."

Actually, I'm not sure if that exchange is what earned him the nickname. I'm not so mean, I've only used it a couple of times.

Hard work is not easy...

Depression will really get you down.

You don't seem to understand the process.

pain hurts

My old therapist had some good ones too:

"you were very young when you were a child"

"black is such a dark color"

"people do seem to enjoy being happy"

"you will feel better when this quits hurting".

I could go on. Of course, bear in mind, I had plenty of time to collect these little gems.

He may have been teasing you with this one.

He did have a great sense of humor. We laughed at most of these actually.

He was a real good guy.

"feelings are not facts"

My response to that was "duh!" and did a facepalm, hehe

My fave from the old shrink was "You DO realize that's not a normal thought process?"

To which I replied "No spit! WTF do you think I'm doing here? Oh I know...I had nothing better to spend my money on than your retirement fund.....DUH!!!

She was not amused at all but then again neither was I. I was pretty ticked by that point. It was her tone of voice and inflection GRRRRR

CE, I'm the queen of fear, and my therapist uses the same exact phrase. I wonder if its a therapy school thing.

.." When you start something new....it´s new to you"....really?

This is a little different, but one session my T was sick, and I guess she wasn't on top of her game.

She was talking...forming a question for me, but she stopped talking in the middle of her sentence. After a pause, she looked at me as if expecting an answer. I was like, "Huh...you just stopped speaking?"

She cracked a smile at that.

"Do you like to watch really good movies?"

My response: "No."

Then we both burst out laughing.

My T has said this one too.

Ditto, except--well I guess this says more about me than him-- I actually found that fairly profound and helpful. I think of feelings as information rather than as evidence per se.

"Everyone makes mistakes".

Duh. We're human. lol

Could be.

Just today my T said..."It's not over until is done" and "depression makes you sad". I told T that I had already figured that out, well duh!
