I always take my shoes off in therapy. I can't remember why or when it began. I never thought about it before...

My aversion is not so much germs, but just the vulnerability of being shoeless in an iffy situation.

My t has a spinny desk chair for clients. It's not terribly comfortable and I can't curl up in it, so my shoes stay on.

My pdoc has a leather sofa and I usually take my shoes off and curl up on it.

My t hasn't mentioned anything adverse about me doing it, she doesn't seem to be bothered by it. I just had to move the chair away from the table since there was an expensive looking coffee machine (like a keurig knockoff) and I kept hitting it. I also keep hitting the file cabinet on accident. I really need to bring something to keep myself from fidgeting SO much, but it's almost impossible at this point. lol

Yep shoes off. Except today because I forgot and wore boots. I felt too awkward about taking them off because it would clearly be intentional. Whereas with my regular shoes or summer shoes I could just "oops, they fell off again so I will conveniently curl up into 1/2 of this chair here". It was weird with them on, I hate shoes. I always wear shoes though because I hate bare feet too. I think having my shoes off has on occasion convinced me not to run away. T has two leather chairs now and leather is easily de-germed so I'm ok in that area

That'd be the case.

lol, that's hilarious! I can just imagine someone coming in to save you both

Nope, shoes stay on in there. XT had a swivel rocker that I loved, but I moved constantly in it. I used to subconsciously swivel it until I was no longer facing him, but then he pointed it out. My feet generally stay on the floor.

When my t was still home and had her office, we usualy took our shoes off and sat on the floor together or curled up on the couch under a blanket. I miss that so much.

I take my shoes off so I can curl up in a ball. Makes me feel safer to be able to curl up.
Thanks for this!

T works out of his home. I take my shoes off at the door. I even brought my slippers in once for an extended session.
He also keeps a blanket in his office and I get cozy. Makes me feel safe. Sometimes he even covers me up with it. It's sweet.

Nope. Not comfortable enough for that. Plus, what if my feet smell?

And yes, I usually wear slide in shoes when I go see T. A few times I've worn boots and still I have to take them off or I can't get comfortable. I need to be curled up to be comfortable talking, and the few times I didn't take my shoes off I was not able to talk much at all.

As for feet germs - my OCD makes me wash my feet every night before I get into bed, unless I'm showering that night, of course!
