I always take my shoes off in ts office. I don't know why. Maybe cuz i like to sit on my feet when I'm on the couch. Just curious if anyone else takes their shoes off in t as well?

Naw.. I sit on my feet as well but I just have sandals or my sneakers, and I stomp outside to make sure there's no dirt tracking in. I tend to sit cross legged and rock a bit. If I'm not, then I'm bouncing my feet everywhere and spinning around in the chair a bit. (I can't sit still, it's impossible. Thankfully my T doesn't mind one bit.)

Never. I wear shoes all the time except in bed, and there I often wear socks. My feet like the safety of shoes everywhere, but especially at therapy. Being shoeless at therapy would possibly be worse than being shirtless. Plus what if I had to leave quickly?

I would rather remove my head.

I also can't stop thinking that other people must touch my T's couch with their feet. Yuck.
Thanks for this!

I'm with you there. I'd rather not think about peoples' feet being where I'm sitting. Fortunately, my T asks us not to put our feet on his couch. I appreciate not having to think about it.

At school when students try to sit on top of the cafeteria tables, I'm pretty blunt in telling them that no one wants to eat their lunch where their butt has been. They generally reply, "Good point."

It's one thing to have my feet on my own furniture at home, and I have no problem with family and friends, etc., but total strangers? No thanks. Just rather not thank you very much.
Thanks for this!

My T has a strict shoes-off policy. So, yes, I do. I keep my feet on the floor though.

There was the session a couple of weeks ago when I sat in easy cross-legged pose on the floor, with my shoes off. It was fine.

But usually I sit in the recliner. I think I would feel more comfortable sitting on the floor, at least physically comfortable. But I can't expect my therapist to get on the floor with me (she's arthritic and dresses nicely). I think I'd feel even more child-like than I already do if she had to look down at me all the time.

I know some people need to get in touch with their inner child, but I personally want to mature and feel "grown up".
Thanks for this!

i wish my t would sit on the floor with me. she did once. but i cant ask her to do it. she did it that time on her own. she is arthritic as well... so i would feel bad asking.

I'm laughing at the image of my T and I trying to do therapy on the floor. He and I both have nagging back issues and I can imagine it would take us both about 30 minutes to get back up. In fact, we might would both need the emergency button they advertise on TV to call the secretary to help us up. You know the commercials: "Help! I've fallen and I can't get up." Yup. That'd be the case.
Thanks for this!

Never take my shoes off, if I did what would I look at when I didn't know what to say?

I take my shoes off too! I'm glad I'm not the only one who does this. I take them off so I can curl up in a ball and fit on her normal-sized chair.
Thanks for this!

My shoes stay ON. I would really feel uncomfortable otherwise. I can't say that I'd rather lose my head or go shirtless as some above, lol, but I am thankful that I don't have to make a choice

Oh heavens no. I took a meditation class where they required us to take our shoes off and found it really disturbing and annoying. Germ issues bug me, but I also think in some ways it is a layer of emotional protection. I feel naked without them. It is too intimate to be out in public without my shoes on (although home is just fine). You are "naked" enough in therapy.

Best,
EJ

Usually my appointment is at the end of the day and I've been running around all day...so... unless I want to gross t out with my icky feet, I keep them on. I would love to take them off though. I hate wearing shoes and socks for that matter too.
