I agree. I think it would be horrible and I'd end up staring at it, just watching the sand fall.

I let my T manage the time. I don't wear a watch and he has no clocks in my direct line of sight. It often surprises me when he says it's time to stop. He has occasionally let me go over time, but it is his call.

Same. I would just stare at the sand the whole time. My T has a small clock across the room facing the patient and then a matching one on the opposite side facing him. I used to look at that clock repeatedly during session and see the minutes ticking down and become more and more morose because I wasn't accomplishing anything and only so much time remained. It took me over a year to stop glancing at the clock over and over and pretend it wasn't there.

The idea of the hourglass does intrigue me. I might like watching the sands of time (said in the tone of that old soap opera that had the hour glass). I would hate "being called back" which in me brings up thoughts of the therapist getting to summon me - which she most certainly does not. But then I usually keep the time myself and do not leave it to the therapist to do so.
Thanks for this!

Nope, you're definitely not the only one. I just feel like I need to walk away with something from each session. Especially now that we're trying to work on my ED.
