I have been dealing with some forms of emotional issues ever since I was a kid. Now as an adult I seem to have some extreme days that are embarrassing and cause problems in my life. I have been to therapy and still am on some meds but I just want to believe that there is no clear cut answers to diagnosing an emotional illness and getting rid of it. I feel I have tried and am not ready to get obsessed with all the types of emotional labels. I want to know if there is truth to feeding your mind into believing you have some emotional illness. Just thinking about checking my symptoms against a list on a chart makes me nervous. And I hate because I might have some of the symptoms but don't know what they mean by an excessive to be a true illness. And there isn't anyway to monitor it without someone watching me day after day who can define me as one. What would you suggest.

Hello and welcome to PC.
I highly suggest you visit a pdoc and get some answers. You need to speak to an expert and be totaly honest with him/her. Cheers, Jan

To me the label is not a death sentence, but rather an option for a new way to live.... for we (Pdoc & I) now know what we need to do & how after we target the problem areas, hence the diagnosis with a label - a mere name.... just like with any medical condition, ones needs to know what it is in order to treat it correctly.

I don't know about you, but most ppl actually relax some once they KNOW what they are battling. Our minds tend to make things much worse than they really are, when it thinks "on it's own."
![]() It's not wise to diagnose oneself though imo... to get an idea, sure, but not for real... plus if you aren't sure, why not get a T to see if you really need one for long at all! TC!

Guess I'll keep it in mind. I just had a bad experience with therapy and I don't trust working with them. They are human just like us and I believe this person had only part of the picture but was convinced I had an issue with something I disagreed with. I tried to see the connection and what I needed to do to improve my situation but it just didn't. So I just don't know what I want to do. Yes I talked to another T and she didn't completely agree with the first T. However, neither could come up with anything conclusive. Maybe just didn't want to commit because I don't. Is that typical.

T are just like any thing else we pay for.... you keep on looking until you find the one you like.
