Does your T charge for filling out forms such as insurance, disability etc.

My T states in her website that she does, but when I asked her to do a letter to my insurance company, she never charged me.

My pdoc on the other hand, charged me $75 each time he had to complete any kind of paperwork. I hated when a follow-up form was required to be completed by him.

My Ts policy is that if there is paperwork to be done, we do it together in session. It might seem strange or like a waste of our time together, but I've actually found it to be very valuable, as the conversations that arise out of the task can be quite helpful!

I've never had to have either my T or my Pdoc do this, but I'm pretty certain if it was paperwork beyond simple signatures they would probably charge. It is fairly standard practice. Have to remember it takes time to do that work and reasonable compensation for their time makes sense.

My physician does so I assume my T would if it requires more than them signing their name.

I've never asked my T, but I don't think she would charge me.

I work at a mental health clinic and our policy is that if the provider can do the paperwork during the session, there is no charge. If the provider must do it outside of session, then there is a $25 charge. The latter is a huge bargain, because it can take a long time to do the paperwork. Usually the therapists' schedules are so full, that if they do it outside of session, this would be during their uncompensated time before or after work. The therapist does not get that $25, the clinic does. Seems kind of unfair--the therapist works extra time and gets no benefit! I think the $25 is just to make clients think twice and try to do it in session, because that fee does not cover the time spent at all. To avoid the paperwork problem, I know that some Ts ask at the outset of the appointment, "do you have paperwork today?" because clients often whip out their paperwork at the very end of the session instead of asking at the beginning.

My T did a lot of work to clean up notes for my disability app, but he billed insurance for 2 sessions and did not charge me anything.

My T also filled out forms and didn't charge anything.

$75 sounds ridiculous to fill out a form...

Depends on the form. Some of them take A LOT of time to complete.

I was thinking the same thing after I posted...I guess I should have clarified. The one my T did for me was about 4 pages and probably took like 10 minutes.

My Ts never have, but the psychiatric nurse practitioner did when I needed to do a medical withdrawal from school and another time I needed a letter (forgot why).
