I am even crabby today that Pandora is giving my husband better music in his office than it is giving me.

Also, I cannot remember my session from last week. That is NEVER a good sign. It makes me feel stupid AND it means that I talked about something incredibly uncomfortable. He is going to want to "bridge" to last week and I'll be sitting there

I didnt get picked! YEAH!

Well that is today. They explained that because our county is smaller our service is for a week. This week 6 judges are trying to seat a jury...with only 300 jurors called this week we can expect to have to report again this week...tomorrow they start on the numbers after our range...and then back to 1 since my number was near the end of the range today I may not be called tomorrow but I will probably get called on Wednesday unless there are plea agreements or settlements.... I could have used a medical excuse but since I dont have diagnosis or take medication it would be hard to get...

I survived...now I'm going to enjoy my afternoon off. I will find out tonight after 5 if I have to report tomorrow.

There was a 3 pg questionaire...they sat the 8 people and questioned them... It took almost 3 hours...lots of sidebar discussion with people... Then the attorneys chose to dismiss people so then more were questioned... If I was picked I had a few yeses...and hoping the fact that my H is a news reporter would help to get me excused too
Thanks for this!

I can remember the first time that I had Jurry Duty after I wasn't selected for the trial that I was screened for they said that they had enough potential jurrors for the other trial so we got to leave around lunchtime and they told us that we didn't have to report for at least another year, which is why when I got another summons a few months later I was excused from it.

Voir Dire, like therapy, is an art, not a science. Although there are those who do studies, collect data, consult and train how to do it. It is quite the important part of a trial.

One interesting thing I found was in one county where I practice - almost everyone has some connection to crime - family in prison, victims, etc. In the other one I am in most of the time - almost everyone had connection to drugs/alcohol/meds.
It can be quite the fascinating study.

WOW that's interesting the only bumper stickers I have on my car are ones for Radio Stations although I did have a Romney bumper sticker on my car before last years election.

I regards to TV shows I would just say anything that airs on FOX (since I watch most of their shows)

I tried to read it, 12 years ago. (I remember it very clearly, it was the summer H and I visited Boston.) I was very disappointed. It was a book I'd looked forward to reading, I brought it along on the trip, and I found it very dull and boring. (And I enjoy books like Gormenghast, where nothing happens for 400 pages!)

I think it was a combination of too-high expectations, a feeling that the author was trying to kick open doors that are already wide open, and, probably, that I was too old for it. If I'd read it at 8 instead of 28 I might have liked it better. Oh, and I think his writing style just didn't chime with me. I didn't even finish it.
Thanks for this!

Hi yous guys. I can read back later. I'm at work right now but I need to get something off my chest.

Some of you may or may not recall me mentioning a neighbor that is troublesome. Put a trash bag in front of my condo with a note, calls the association on us, etc.

Well, I have a confession to make: I am TOTALLY 100% terrified of him. I don't want to see him, his car, his condo, his wife. His very existence terrifies me. He's never said anything to me directly except once when I first moved in back in 2008 before I knew he was troublesome. My dog went near him (my dog is very friendly) and I said he don't bite to which he replied. I don't care keep your dog away from me. But that was the only interaction and that was 5 years ago.

Anyway, I just wanted to get off my chest that he scares the living crap out of me.

Okay. Carry on. Sorry.

I can see where the book could seem a bit dated now. I read it when I was about 10 after the movie scared the bejeezus out of me when I was younger than that. I think she only wrote this one novel.

My H always walks by his condo when he walks the dogs. I go the other way when I walk them just to avoid going by his condo.

On my most recent jury duty stint, the defense attorney asked me why the burden of proof was on the state. I replied that it is incredibly hard to prove that you did NOT do something - it could possibly be difficult for me to prove that I did not commit whatever crime we were there to discuss.

I'm assuming it was the prosecution who did not want me.

The other time I got called I was still in high school. I'd put down my part-time job title instead of 'High School Student' when I received the notice. So I got to take the day off from school and go. I also did not get selected for that jury.

Apparently I give off "really crappy juror" vibes.

I'm sorry you're living next to a person like that, Jersey. Does it make you feel unsafe when you're at home? (forgive me if that's not an appropriate question)

Jerz, would you like empathy only, or suggestions also? Empathy only is obviously perfectly acceptable, I just don't want to step on your toes by trying to brainstorm solutions when you are not looking for them. Big hugs.
