It isn't a horrid move, just because her stuff is all in packed already in storage. She is actually getting excited about it.

Wiki...I'm glad you are doing better and that you D is so helpful to you. Love the pics...

Its odd how much sounds can affect us....my H gained a some weight since he had surgery on his knee and cant run everyday and recently had to purchase bigger sized pants but now has to wear a belt... The sound of the belt buckle jangling is so triggering...

Well off to jury duty....decided to wear my cross necklace in hopes it offends someone and i get excused

hey wiki thanks for seeing me I am so glad you are feeling a bit better. can I adopt your daughter. I just have no energy to decorate at all.i am going to do some Christmas stuff today. I need to get a small Christmas tree to send to my boy. I send him one every year with decorations.

as far as the dishes and pots and pans -wow I always think that I am alone I things to find out differentially. it is sad you know what that feeling is like. that happened with the story I told about the wooden spoons and how the mother would break them when beating me with them, then asking me to get her new ones for x mas . it turned out wooden spoons were the preferred weapon of most parents here on pc. who knew

Love the pics Wiki and the fireplace looks great.
Good luck with the final packing BP, Selling a house and moving is emotionally draining.

The thing people are willing to lose or damage instead of taking responsability for their own words and actions are mind boggling. I hope everyone has a great day today.

Wow...I log off to go relax last night and the couch explodes.

Morning couch.

I tossed and turned all night last night and kept waking up and taking forever to get back to sleep. I have no clue why. Hopefully, I will be alert enough to make it through the first day of h e l l with the kids being wild because there is only a couple weeks before they are out for winter break.

RTS, good luck with jury duty. I hope they don't pick you. I am lucky. *knock on wood* I have never been called for jury duty. I like it that way.

CC, great to see you back.

Wiki, nice pics. Since I have lived on my own, I have never decorated for Christmas. I just don't see the point in it, since it would be just me looking at it. I'm glad your daughter decorated for you.

Healed, I hope your T responds to your email soon, or calls you.

To anyone else I forgot...I hope he day treats you well.

Well...I am off to get dressed and pack my lunch before having to leave for work.

I'll try to pop in tonight if I am not too tired.
Thanks for this!

Morning all. I will probably be TRYING to lie low for a while. I am not in a great mood and having trouble not saying things that will be taken as harsh. Honestly, I am having trouble not saying things that really and truly will be harsh and unnecessary. Not a very nice person inside my head right now.

I hope everyone here has a great day.

Oh, Wikid, I am going to try to do this 'fat flush' thing with a friend here. No processed foods for 5 days, and then 5 days of basically only fruit, veggies and protein shakes. I can do the 5 days of no processed foods, because other than lunches with co-workers, I pretty much already do that. Not sure about the 5 days of protein shakes, but we'll see.

In my jurisdiction - people can keep their tech for most types of trials. Ipads and kindles and phones make for a happier jury pool.
And this week and next week, here at least, are big jury weeks because after that it is holidays for 3 weeks while the court and clerks and stuff are taking vacations.

But that is the whole week they usually bring in a new set of jurors every day to be screened (at least at most courthouses).

BTW they do sometimes ask if you have a medical condition or not (maybe not yourself personally but they may ask it as a screening question) if they do than make sure you say that you do have a condition (they will usually ask the people who do to stand so they can record their jurror numbers) since that will play a big part on if you get selected or not.

How does it work? You are called to come in to possibly be picked for jury duty, is that right? How many jurors - 12, like in the movies? And how do they pick, is it random?
Signed, Curious Mammoth

(we have a different system, with presiding judges who are trained as lawyers and lay judges who are not - the latter are sort of similar to a jury, I think, but they are elected by the political parties for a period of four years, and during that time they can be called several times.)

In my jurisdiction this is not the case. I urge caution in saying what happens in "most courthouses". People here usually have to attend for 3 days to be picked - they do not bring in new people every day. Again - state jury stuff is very jurisdiction specific and is not the same across the country.

Where I practice, they bring in what is called a venire panel of maybe 50 fifty potential jurors and the attorneys in the case ask a series of questions to determine which panel members will be selected to sit on the jury. Each attorney gets a number of strikes (to take off a venire panel member they do not like) and some strikes must be for cause and so many can be just for whatever. If a venire panel member is not picked, they go back into the general pool to be called out again with another group.

I've been reading a bunch of old threads I posted back when I was still seeing exT, and when I was wondering how therapy was supposed to work, and just before and after I started seeing current T. I really got a lot of support from people here. And I've come a long way since then. It was good to be reminded of that.

That sounds like a sensible model. Random chance tempered with common sense, sort of.

HAHA, no not exactly, what they do is they bring in a large number of people (usually about 300 or so where I live but this can variety on the population of the county because obviously populations differ greatly from county-to-county) which are selected at random and from there they do screening questions to the jurors and select their jurors from that (which is 12).

Also once you are summoned to Jury Duty than you do not have to report again for at least another year, a few months after my first Jury Duty assignment I got another summons in the mail but since I just had Jury Duty a few months back I sent it back telling them that and I was excused from reporting that time.

That's also sort of what it is like in the county where I live, the last time I was at Jury Duty there were 2 trials they were screening for, the first trial they choose 90 people to be screened for (which I didn't get selected to be screened for), the 2nd they choose 45 people (which I did get selected for screening but the defendant plead Guilty right before the screening process was to take place), and I believe that some people got selected to be screened for both.

I think the jury system is safe to comment on, though. LOL. In my jurisdiction, it's a pool of about 60-90 people, depending on how many trials are scheduled. The judge 'seats' 20 people and we do voir dire. We get three peremptory strikes (for whatever reason we want), and as many strikes 'for cause' as are necessary. If strikes for cause put us below 12, the judge seats more people and we then ask them questions as well.

I know that it can be a long screening process (especially for a criminal trial), I can remember not long after they took the 90 potential jurors to be screened they told the rest of us to take an hour and 45 minute lunch break and when we got back the other people (those who went to be screened for the trial) still hadn't come back yet (they did come back about 20 or so minutes later after being there for over 2 hours).

It also depends on the judge. Some judges will limit what questions and/.or how many questions you can ask during voir dire. One judge just says each side gets 45 minutes to question. Period. End of story and make those questions count because at the end of an hour and a half, we seat the jury. In our county, I think the longest I have seen a judge let voir dire go on was for a criminal trial that was highly publicized and then, the jury was still seated by early afternoon. Typically, even in criminal cases, the jury is seated by noon at the latest.

The neighboring county is different and I have heard they can sometimes take all day to get a jury.

Sometimes voir dire lasts longer than the trial where I practice. I do very few jury trials as lead attorney, but I often second seat them to help make a record for appeal. Reading the voir dire transcript is at the top of being the most boring part of writing a brief I think.
I second sat in an outlying county once where the judge conducted the voir dire and not the attorneys - that was painful to sit through.
