Monday is my first Pdoc appt. I've been through 3 Ts unsuccessfully. I'm kind of scared. What should I expect at this appt? What will the difference be? I'm afraid to tell him anything. Help please.

Pdoc's generally aren't therapists anymore; he'll be more like a "regular" doctor but his questions will be based on how you feel, your moods and thinking patterns, sleep patterns, etc. It won't be quite as "hard"/scary as it might be with therapy as he won't be discussing anything very personal, just your patterns and degrees of problems, "how often" and "how much" sortsof questions.

Hi devox!

It's important to ... tell him everything.. even though it may feel scary to do that. Go with no expectations except to just relax and let it happen. Be as honest as you can be, and backtrack if you find you have not been fully honest.... adding to something you've already said.

Being as open and honest as you can be will make all the difference. Remember, he is a professional who has likely heard everything and can accept anything and everything you have to say.

He is not there because he wants to judge; he is there because he cares deeply about people and has chosen to help people as his life's work. You will be in good, safe hands there.

You could plan something nice for yourself for after your appointment so you have something to look forward to beyond your appointment time. I have done this; I usually choose small rewards like having some of my favorite flavored tea or coffee and a good book, movie, or magazine at home waiting for me. This is your day to be good to you!

How exciting yet scary! I have seen several Therapists, a few Psychologists and two psychiatrists. Every single first session I was pretty scared and excited! You will adjust soon, let god be with you and guide you through. Best of luck. Let us know how it goes! What to expect? (((Devox)))

(((devox))) I'm proud of you for continuing to try to heal! I would expect the T to listen to you, and I would expect you to tell the T how horrible you've been feeling.
