Before therapy I feel extremely anxious to the point where I'm trembling, can't sit still, feel physically sick and horribly nervous. Ive been seeing T for 2months so is it normal to still feel so incredibly anxious beforehand (generally when i'm in the waiting room)? Do any of you get this?

I get anxiety in the waiting room and I been seeing this t for 4 months , I use to get it with old t as well, but it was because I couldn't wait to see her.
With this one it's different I get panicky hands sweat racing heart shaky , but once in the room I calm down some. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I have been seeing my T for 2 years, and I still get anxious. It's gotten better and isn't as intense, but it's still there.

I threw up before each appointment for about the first three years.

I'm glad that others experience this too. I have been getting sick before my every session. I can't figure out how to calm myself, and I even talked to T about it. We have a four step process for relaxing, and we've come to an agreement that I can't get sick unless I've completed all four steps and they didn't work.

Yep, been in therapy for 9 years (many different Ts though) and seeing this T for about 5 months I still get butterflies in my stomach (or sometimes BATS) before going to a session. I always worry that I won't know what to say.

I've been with my therapist for four years in individual therapy and now I only feel nervous on occasion. thankfully not on my way or waiting for him to come get me, but at home before I leave. Only if I think something will be very difficult on that day. I throw up and everything but that happens rarely now. It didn't use to happen in the first two months of individual therapy. then it happened more and more often. Then it decreased and now I'm feeling very comfortable with my therapist, which means I usually don't feel anxiety before my sessions. I also know why the increase and decrease in anxiety before sessions over time - I would definitely recommend to watch for changes in your therapy and maybe personal life. See if you need certain things to change in order to feel safe enough before session. Or if you can recognize any patterns as to when you feel more anxiety and when you might feel less. Thought I'd put that out there because it's made a difference to me.

YES...just YES!!!
Especially if things were left unsaid the session before OR if I wrote him and feel exposed waiting for the full discussion about what I revealed. Usually most nervous the minute I start walking down the hall and into his office and closing the door. ![]() I HATE other people in the waiting room while I'm waiting....don't know why...but get so incredibly uptight and uncomfortable.... Yes! I even take klonopin before appointments bc I was so anxious. Still working on coping skills since meds aren't a long term solution, but it helps me with attending sessions and getting some progress.

![]() ![]() I still get nervous or feel anxiety after over one year with my Therapist. I usually have to take medication or listen to calming music before sessions. It will probably ease up for you a bit as time moves forward. Two months is not a long time and there's still much to learn about one another. It takes some serious adjusting to get used to this whole "therapy" business. I am not too sure it is even possible to every fully acclimate or reach a point where anxiety no longer exists! ![]()

Yes. I still get pretty anxious and it's been over a year. Some days are better than others but I haven't figured out why yet. I get sick to my stomach, can't figure out what to wear to the extreme, shaky, sweaty, feel like I'm going to pass out etc.etc.

I stay busy the day of my appointments so that I don't have time to think about it. I also bring a book to my appointment just in case I am early or she runs late. In general I am an expert at avoiding this type of anxiety.

I do my best with trying to avoid as well. I find avoiding though leads to an immense amount of pressure internally for me. It seems to get in the way of my therapy /:

I've been seeing her for years and I still feel like I'm going to throw up before every session. For me, I think it's because it's so unpredictable. I never know what's going to happen beforehand, and sometimes it can be very emotionally straining and painful and there's no way to prepare for it.

Same here. Almost always anxious before session. T even notices and sometimes makes comments like: "Why are you always scared of me?" or she asks if she's done something to justify those feelings.
I did take an anxiety med once before a session. She told me not to do that again...I was so unreactive. But I can have one on me for afterwards ![]()

BIG TIME. I've gotten to the point that I make sure not to get there too early, because it's worse in the waiting room. I've also made it a habit NOT to sit down in the waiting room. Makes it worse for me. I stand, look at books on the shelves, etc.... but don't sit. T notices my anxiety too. I don't know why I'm like this.... I actually kind of like my sessions, and I really like her, I guess I know there will come a time I will lose it during a session, I have not cried yet.... and I never know if TODAY will be the day. If by chance I do get there too early, I pull out my phone and play candy crush lol

For at least a year, I couldn't eat for the entire day until after I saw my T. I felt that I would have thrown up if I tried, and I just didn't have an appetite. My hands always shake in session, and the waiting room is an especially awful experience for me because I get such high anxiety. You're not alone!!

For first 2-3 months I was very anxious before each session. I didn't throw up nor have any other physical reaction as I learned how to relax my body whenever needed but I was pretty terrified. Then, it went better and I calmed downed, but a week ago I started the real trauma work so it is worse again (but not as bad as it was at the beginning). Thus, in my case it is more like a sinusoid curve...
