My therapist is going on vacation for a month and it's making me feel very anxious and abandoned. Do you all feel like this? What have your experiences been like it? I am also unable to talk to him about this bc I feel guilty.

Hi Tangerine87. It's nice to meet you. Is there a way to see a fill in therapist for now? Your therapist will be back soon. I had a therapist that retired at an early age. I was just getting comfortable with him, and then he left.

Maybe you can take a vacation now. Find a way to relax. It can be a real vacation, or even a mental vacation. You still have us all here at Psych Central.

Sincerely,

Piraeus

Hi Tangerine, my therapist goes on vacation every year for 6 weeks - mid July to end of August. I'm getting anxious about it now. I'll b honest with u, it's hard. But keep busy, and try to do something special the time u should be in therapy - get a manicure, go out to lunch with a friend, body massage, etc. it will pass. I usually count the days left until I can see her!

My T is on vacation. I though I would be ok with it, but I am anxious and depressed. He's not even gone for that long! It's really painful, ouch!

Yes, the two I see have been gone that long, or I took that long of a break. If worried about it, why not schedule something regular at that time like a yoga class, massage, reiki or something like that for yourself?

Yes, Tangerine, my therapist leaves for 10 weeks every summer.. I'm dreading the moment this year, because I'm in a bad place. I cannot talk openly about it either, but will try to. So yes, I totally understand!

WOW that can be hard I don't think I would want to see a Therapist that would be gone for more than a week or 2 in the summer, I start with a new Therapist in less than 2 weeks (since my current Therapist is going elsewhere) and I'll have to ask her how much she will be away during the summer.

Welcome to PC!!!!

My CBT T is away for 7 weeks this summer and I've never had a T be away for more than 3 at a time. It is very hard to adjust to and yes, it often feels like abandonment.

Keep posting! Maybe your T has strategies for coping??
