I've noticed when something happens to me I tell my T about it first. Like just recently, my cat died. I texted T at like 7 that morning telling her. I told her before I told my best friend. Is that weird?

That's not weird at all (imo). I am the same way or i'll think about telling T and I end up telling someone else because (like my best friend) because I just happen to talk to them first. In my case it's because the conversation is more purposeful when discussing those thoughts with T whereas my friends may or may not be available, may or may not get it, may or may not care. With T she cares about everything I care about (or makes me think so at least) and also she usually knows the significance of something happening more so than others.

I don't think so! My T is very often the first (and sometimes the only) person to know things. Besides my best friend, and at times, my dad, she is the first person that I think to go to with important news, exciting news, bad news......

I got really great news tonight and my first thought was "I can't wait to tell T!"

I called my best friend right off the bat, and thought about texting T, but decided to contain myself till I see her this week :-)

I wouldn't say it is weird but it certainly isn't how I handle stuff.

It's the same with me. I will tell her long before I tell anyone else, unless I am scared of her reaction. Then, she is often the last to know, after everyone else has reassured me that she won't hate me. Lol.

I tell the woman things such as when I was hit by a car and was rather shaken up. I had to go be in charge of a student thing and was shaking. I did want to tell someone and other real people or even the other therapist, would have interfered or tried to take care of me and it would have been awful. So I called and left her a message because I knew she would stay back. I wrote her an email later to say nothing major was broken and she responded by telling me something awful had befallen her pet that day too.

I'm too pathetic to have anyone else to tell BUT my T when significant things happen...plus will be food to fodder for the grist mill next session anyway.

I frequently tell no one. I mean, I guess I tell myself. I have a lot of inner dialogue. When I get it worked out perfectly, then I share with other people. Or I don't. Usually, I don't. Usually, by then, I'm "talked out" because I've gone over and over it so many times in my mind.

If it's something stellar, like today I got called for a 2nd Interview with this new company I want to work for, I texted my husband with a "teaser" message. I texted a friend with direct information. They were both excited for me.

The only time T and I have spoken between sessions is the time I almost killed myself because of something she said, so I called to tell her I wouldn't be returning.

I think about telling T about most things that happen but I often do not tell him about some of the most important things. Or the trivial things. I'm actually very careful about what I reveal to T but internally I want to share everything.

There are some instances where that is the case for me.

Not necessarily first, but usually in the first few. We've had some doozies of crises -- truly life and death matters -- and he has gotten those calls pretty early on. He is amazingly helpful in a crisis.

O.m g. Really?? No wonder you dont want her to talk!! I felt bad that i didnt have anything to say to your post yesterday; i dont do well with examples, but this i find kinda weird. When i called my t to tell him i was in the hospital, i would not have wanted to hear about his dog. For several reasons.
Thanks for this!

If that's the therapeutic relationship, that has been established, it's not weird.

To me, immediate access to my T or anyone of my doctors seems like a foreign concept.

When my cat died, it was my bf that was there for me in the 4am hour.

I'm the same. My T is usually the first person I tell things to when anything happens. Sometimes she is the only person I tell and sometimes I will tell people what I told t a few months after it has happened.

Yes, I've done this in the past a few times, not so much anymore.
