In my 2nd or 3rd session my T explained my diagnosis code to me (Adjustment Disorder.) he told me it's kinda a catch-all dx that most ins companies don't question.
Ever since them I have wondered if there is something 'wrong' with me or if it's just a formality. I think about this a lot. Should I bring it up? What if I don't like his response? Has anyone ever asked for clarification on their Code? :/ Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

If you're feeling worried or anxious about it, I think it's absolutely fair game to bring up with your therapist... That said, I once had a therapist use that diagnosis with me too... they basically said the same thing! My understanding at the time is that it's *less* stigmatizing and less likely to cause problems in your medical record than other possible diagnoses... so it's an easy way to use a dx code that insurance will pay, but that won't require them to give too many personal details to the insurance company or cause you problems later on (with it being in your records)...
I could be wrong, but that was the impression I got. |

That's interesting. I always thought it had to be an Axis I disorder to be reimbursable by insurance. Kinda wish my T had used it for me....I'm too scared to go into diagnosis with my T but I probably should. It would help clarify things I'm sure, if you could try and talk to him about it

I've asked T she himed and haud and tried to escape it but then looked up what was in my file. Bipolar + history of anorexia. I told her I didn't care what it said there what does she think. After himing and hauing again she told me nerosis and bipolar but she really didn't want to talk about it and tried to escape it and changed the conversation as fast as possible. I'm getting ready to ask again so we'll see.

My therapist also uses adjustment disorder for me for the same reasons already mentioned even though I fit the diagnostic criteria for other disorders, too. My psychiatrist treats me for Bipolar I so I don't have a clean record anyway.
It's a perfectly fine subject to talk about. |
