My T emailed me this test this evening to take and send her the score. I got 29.28. Anyone have any idea what that means?

Dissociative Experiences Scale

Read the information about what the results mean on this page. Doesn't sound like the result is statistically predictable of anything really. I would hope all she is using this for is to get an idea of the kind of dissociation you experience. It is NOT diagnostically accurate by its own description.
Thanks for this!

The Google told me that the average score for an average random college student is 7.9...so 29.28 is comparably high. I think she wanted an idea of how often I dissociate.

Here's a link to a site that talks about what the average scores for people are. The graph near the bottom is really eye-opening about who scores what and what is considered "normal" or average dissociation.

My T had me take this a while ago, just to get a better idea of the types of dissociation I experience, and how often it occurs. I tend to score very high on the test - in the range of patients with DID, but do not have DID. I just dissociate very easily, and it's my default response to stress, so it happens often. My T didn't really do anything with it, except use it for more information. On more robust personality and symptom tests, I tend to score lower on the dissociative scales, usually in the sub-clinical ranges.

I've also found that I score differently on this test based on my current mind set. If I'm struggling more with dissociation, then I tend to mark things more severe, but on a day when I'm not struggling as much, I mark things less severe. My results have ranged from 20 to 50 at various times. Took it tonight - struggling with emotions and dissociation - and got a score of 50.

I got a 41. I don't think it is correct.

I think it would vary for me as well. I haven't had as many dissociative symptoms recently, but there are times I dissociate many times during a day or a week. And that makes it hard to determine what answers would be accurate for me. I just sort of guessed on what am average amount of dissociation is for me at any given time and went with that.

This test has actually been subject to many huge studies showing it's validity and accuracy. It's obviously not 100% correct for every single person, but it's pretty accurate for almost all people.

Yeah but maybe I don't understand the questions...? Like some of them are half right. I can sit staring into space, but I'm always thinking about something. My mind is never blank.

Not for diagnostics of DID though. I would hate for someone to see the link for the test, take it, score high, see the results saying high probability of DID and freak out thinking they have DID. That is why you always read the fine print, but some wouldn't see beyond the test "results" and that would be unfortunate.

Well, reading the questions carefully is a good idea. Which ones did you score high on? Maybe you have some dissociative symptoms but are unaware of them?

I agree wholeheartedly. This seems to measure frequency, rather than severity of symptoms.

I scored 77. I'd call it absent mindedness and daydreaming. I'm in creative work where that's a good thing.

my score was low, an 8, but i do know i dissociate a bit. i would guess what is happening in one's life would make a difference. my life is quite simple currently and rather predictable. at another time my score might be a little higher.

I scored 12. (Below 30, Lower Association With DID)

When I was doing the test issues with its validity came up. Psychotic and anxiety disorders can influence the results, which it did in my case. E.g., depersonalization and auditory hallucinations.

This question was odd: Talking out loud to oneself when alone.
I do this a lot, because it helps with problem solving. What does that have to do with dissociation?

I don't really know about that one, because I do it all the time, too. Maybe if you have DID, you're talking to other parts of yourself?

My t says that some symptoms do overlap into other conditions.

I hear "I hate you" and "die" and other abusive statements. It sounds like my own voice, with a very mean tone, but it feels like someone else is saying it and it also feels that I have no control over it speaking to me.

Off topic, but That is one darn negative introject.
