What is the best treatment for anxiety? If I am correct I believe it is CBT? But is it just talking about it? Wouldn't a form of desensitization be better? Although it seems some forms of that would not work well in an office setting. Im so sad and feel overpowered by this anxiety. Can anyone offer some suggestions?
First on my list is to discuss medication options with my pdoc, but some form of therapy seems appropriate as well.

Hi There, I am currently doing CBT work as well. I have had panic /agoraphobia fir many years. I can honestly say that for the short time I have been doing CBT, I see a difference in the way I think. I do not know that much about desensitization. Regular talk therapy can help you discover where it came from, and can answer those questions, but CBT deals with the present, how to change your thought patterns to function, and fight all of the negative thoughts that cause panic. Good Luck, I hope that helps a bit.

Thats wonderful that you notice a difference! Do you find you are reacting in calmer ways to things as well or is it just effecting how you think? Although, I suppose they are one in the same.

Im not sure exactly what kind of anxiety. Its probably more of a generalized anxiety that started as more specific and was never treated early on and now its more widespread. I have noticed that I have new anxiety concerns that were never present before, so somehow a small amount has become more. Im concerned it will get really out of control. At this point it seems like I have too many anxiety concerns to be able to walk into a t and say, hello I have elevator anxiety. It would go more like, hello, I have anxiety about a lot of things that go on in my week. Is that generalized?

yeah that sounds like generalised to me.

There are some behaviourist techniques that are relatively fast and effective for specific phobias so if you had one of those I would have suggested a behaviourist / cognitive behaviour therapist.

with generalised anxiety... i don't think the technique matters so much as getting on with someone and thinking that you can work together.
