It's been a long standing question for me.............Will I ever get there?

T has said many a time, " You will get there............"

Well in the last session T asked me where 'There' was.

I was stumped, I don't actually know where 'there' is, it's something I cling on to so surely I must know where it is?

T said that 'there' is being ok with all of it (my stuff). Knowing about it, not living it but not denying it either. And that 'there' is actually 'here' in the present.

I now feel that actually I will never get 'there'

You will get there! You are heading that direction now and you keep getting closer the more you talk and understand so you can accept and let go. There isn't any other way.

So 'there' is also right now... and right now you are on the way, on the road. You are learning. You can't be there til you get there.

I like how your T defines it though. It's a way of living that is calm and peaceful, which is why we are seeking it, right?

lol, sorry. I think "there" takes on a different meaning for all of us. Peg, if you have finally been able to define what "there" means for you, that's a huge step. How can you get somewhere when you don't even know where it is? That's great that your T asked you to define where "there" is. Know you know, but don't stress yourself out by putting to much focus on that very specific end goal. Just keep working, keep on your journey, and you'll naturally keep getting closer to where you want to go.

I guess 'there' means different things to different parts of myself.

And getting 'there' can seem very frightening/threatening to the parts of self that have been badly hurt.

Yes at times I KNOW where 'there' is and other times that seems too unbelievable so I go into denial about that too.

I got "there" (by your T's defination) and knew I was there but still didn't quite know where I was or how I got there :-) and, like everything else, the sense of "it" comes and goes. I don't always feel like I'm there but now I can at least find a core place, a "Me" who has a clue and can help me out. But I was confused the whole time I was looking for there too and afraid "Time" would run out before I found it, that I was moving forward too slowly. It's like tracking in the desert, for a long time I didn't realize I was tracking! Then I found the flow of the dry riverbed and gradually learned to follow it, etc.

Yes I'm getting there, no I'm not, I'm getting there, no I'm not............................

Various parts of self are there already it's just the rest of me needs to catch up.

Yes my T is the best!

He is always 'there' for me! and he has faith that I will get 'there' too.

So I hang on to that, it's what keeps me going.......................
