Does anyone else feel like this? I've only had a few sessions so far but I feel like this every time. I feel very comfortable with my T and we're still getting to know each other. It feels great to finally talk about a lot of stuff. But I always feel like time flies. I wish I could afford to see him longer.

Maybe this will change once we get past this introduction phase and move onto real "therapy" where I have to dig deeper into painful feelings?
Thanks for this!

I still feel this way and I've been with her for 15 months and am into the painful stuff. Actually, the 50 minutes feels even shorter now. Even my T has commented that her and I could wind up talking for hours if there wasn't a limit.

I HATE this " 50 min hour" crap! I refuse to see a T who does this. One hour is short enough without reducing it to 50 mins and still calling it an hour! ugh

The deeper I go, the shorter the 45-minute hour feels. It is never long enough. At least I am lucky in that I get to go twice a week.

It used to feel that way to me. It was really a struggle to get from one session to the next. Now I've been in therapy for 16 months and I'm starting to feel more secure in between sessions. Granted I go four times a week, but I don't have a strong support system apart from my therapist. Getting on the right meds helped too.

With my trauma t, to whom I am strongly connected, time flies. The hour is just not long enough, especially when I look forward to seeing her all week. But with my psychologist and drug counsellor, time goes painfully slowly. I haven't connected with my psychologist yet and I haven't known my counsellor long enough to have built a rapport with him. Also, with my tt I know what to talk about - there's pretty much an endless number of topics we cover, but with the others I'm just not sure what to talk about. My tt is great at guiding the conversation when I'm struggling. She gets me. The others, not so much. With my tt, the time just dissappears. But with the others, I find myself watching the clock moving very slowly.

When I have something important to talk about, the time flies. I don't feel like I've been able to get to everything I need to address. There have been other times where the hour dragged. I think part of my issue is that I spend a bunch of time waring with myself to bring up the subject. It seems to take me forever to get comfortable in the session. It changes with different t's though. I could get into things with ex ex t, but it was difficult to find the courage to bring things up with ex t. I'm not sure how things will go with this new lady. Hopefully I will just push through it...

I think relationship can have a big impact on how fast time goes. The harder it is to speak to the person the longer it feels for me.

I've found 50 minutes to be about right most of the time. T is good at framing our sessions so they don't feel like they abruptly end. He's also good at finding a focus for each session so I don't feel like I'm trying to do too much in that time period. He's gone overtime with me a few times when I was in a particular crisis, but extra time isn't something that I normally have needed, even during the intense era of my therapy. If I needed more than an hour a week, I simply scheduled an extra session. I've learned I don't have to do it all in one session. One or two areas of focus is about all my brain can handle anyway. Beyond an hour, I really just get mentally exhausted and find I leave really worn out, so 50 minutes is really good self-care in a way.

I wish my T did twice a week sessions, too...but she's too full. I get home from therapy and stuff is stirred up. I always have to send her a follow-up email.

I get home and I miss talking to her already.

I've never had regularly scheduled sessions, but if I needed an extra session, usually he's had an opening that I could work with. Not always, and in those cases we might touch base by phone, but I'd say 75% or so of the time he's been able to get me in which is pretty good considering I have a tight schedule to work around myself.

I have a lot of trouble connecting back to what I was feeling from session to session, so if the 50 minutes is not enough one week, it's really hard for me to get back to it the following session...

I get 60 minutes and occasionally more - 80 minutes last session without extra fees - I feel lucky.

I would agree, but I do quite a lot of background research and practice to be sure to learn from the all too brief 50 mins, and preparation for the next session, so in effect I get 50 mins of face to face for £45 and an extra 100+ mins in a manner of speaking free

I am always ready for the time to be up.
It is like an hour of having my teeth drilled without anesthetic or putting my arm into a blender. I don't find therapy fun.

My sessions are at least a couple of hours. I cannot imagine fifty minutes. That is way too short. I have DID and it takes a couple hours for my t to even get to talk to a few of us inside, and theres always a long line waiting inside to talk the next time. Longest session was about 14 hours ( we spent the day together, actually several days) and even that went by too fast.

That happened a lot with an old Therapist of mine, not so much with my current Therapist (it now sometimes feels like I want the time to pass ASAP).

I've been with current t for 3 years & 3 months, and every single time we talk I can't believe how fast the time goes. It flew by when I saw her in person, and if flies doing phone sessions now. Back in Sept or Oct I forget now I started doing 25 minute sessions instead of 50 so I could afford weekly again (I had gone down to twice a month due to cost, I pay out of pocket) and we're still doing that. Now my sessions really fly by! But one thing has been really good about 25 minutes, is that when there's something I need to talk about that's not easy, I hem and haw a lot less since I know I don't have much time. So I like my 25 minute sessions now. Just had one this evening as a matter of fact.

I found I was so anxious about how fast even 60 minutes would go. I now go every other week but go for 90 min instead. It doesn't feel rushed and we can work through things more, even though I'm technically having 30min less over two weeks.
Thanks for this!

Yes T can do 90 minutes but cost is an issue for me. If I do 90, I'd have to see T every other week. I'd rather see him weekly for now.

For years with past Ts it was 50 or 60 minutes. The time flew by! My current T let me have 90 minute sessions and it was wonderful! I always felt like I had time for everything. Now I'm back to 60 minutes every other week because she doesn't take my insurance. It's been hard to adjust but I'm getting used to it.
