I think that used to be the case but that's because it wasn't worth doing. Now it is. :P

I think I might be a little worried about your health if you started sounding like a T SD

It is not as bad yet as it was with the pc, but it does happen. I know what I did and so will not do it again. I was trying to see if I could stream a local news channel.

Me too. And yet sometimes I am accused of such.

I'm so cautious with my Macbook. I've had it 5 years now and So far I've had good luck. I don't go to many sites though.

My dad often gets all sorts of malware trying to stream European football on his laptop, but it runs windows.

Yes, this was the first time in 6 years. Unlike pc where it was a weekly thing almost.

Yeah. I used a PC before getting my MacBook, but I ran Linux instead of Windows. So no viruses there either.

I have a Windows desktop in my home office for work. I have no choice as none of the applications I am required to use work on anything other than windows. Boo! I hope they get with the times and adjust them to work with MacOS.

You guys are killing my Mac dreams!

We have wasted so much money on Windows laptops, and desktops, in the last few years. The IT guy at my office put Linux on my daughter's desktop, magic, no more malware! Also, no matter what she does to it it just won't crash.

So this year was my year to get a MacBook and stop keeping computer repairmen in business. It's a HUGE investment for me, so I want to make sure it's as impossible to infect as Linux was.

SD, once in 6 years is something I can live with. Catonyx, you're loving yours too?

More ammunition anyone?

Hiss! I have to recreate a feature I wrote ten years ago in a different language and I can't see how it ever worked. And the customer won't tell me what it is supposed to do.

Oh, and today sucked. The pediatrician said DD2's "symptoms" (yes she used air quotes) were viral and asked her how she likes school. And the principal wants a meeting tomorrow night for a retention/promotion discussion, since she's missed so many hours of instruction time. And then, when she thought she hung up but I could still hear, she and the vice principal and the attendance officer speculated that (due to my email address) I worked for the Department of Social Services (ummmm, wrong!) I must know more about the rules than I'm letting on and, according to the attendance officer "This mom's playing us!!!!!"

Whereupon the dummies finally figured out they were on speakerphone and finally disconnected, so I would love to know what else was said!

What am I gaining by "playing" them? And how does my job affect my knowledge of their job or the law? And how is my child's report card and notes home from the teacher so positive if she's missing so much instructional time that she'll be forced to repeat first grade?

Is she failing but getting passing grades from the teacher? Is she learning but being held back to teach me a lesson?

Homeschool anyone?

Yes, I've had mine 5 years. Love it. I want a Mac mini, but I won't get one yet. Maybe in a few months I will look into it... Probably not though. I'm too indecisive. Plus, I can't use it for work... So I would have two computers on one desk. I would need one of those peripheral sharing boxes.

FWIW, I've had my macbook for 5+ years and it's still chugging along. Slower than a newer one, naturally, and it can't handle having more than 4 or 5 programs open at once without slowing down significantly, but the only service I've ever needed on it was replacing the battery about a year ago, and replacing the power cord when the magnetic connection piece broke. I also have it on lockdown re: ad-blocking software and data collection blockers (not sure what else to call them). I also have Web Of Trust added to Chrome, which gives me big obnoxious warnings if I try navigating to untrustworthy sites.

Overall I've loved having it and I was a Windows devotee for years. I've gone through multiple Windows computers in the same amount of time I've owned this one macbook.

That being said, I will be looking to replace this one within the next year or so. If a new MB is too cost-prohibitive, I might switch to something like a Chromebook and see how that goes...

I am happy I switched to mac - but there are some programs I need that only run on pc. So I do have to use both still.

I just replaced my MacBook that I've had since 2006 last summer - mostly because it was too old to sync with my iPhone and iPad. The stbx went through at least three PCs in the same time. They are a bit of an investment, but worth it in the long run.

Once again I am reminded why I no longer start threads and should stay away from those who just must shame and give unwarranted and unrequested advice.
