I just want to know if anyone would like to share how your CBT sessions are. Im not sure if im in true CBT or not. Basically my sessions start out on how my week was, then we talk about if I did my homework or not. If I didn't do it then that's the subject for the rest of the session. My T starts giving me all kinds of examples about stuff. My T is not concerned about my problems anymore, just my homework. So is CBT just a bunch of homework? I dont see how my thoughts will change just by some examples of stuff. I guess if I do more of the homework I will get better?

My T is not a homework/worksheet kind of CBT therapist. Good thing because that wouldn't fly with me.
We generally start with a check in and he hones in on whatever seems most pressing at the time. The CBT skills are worked into our discussion, in processing what is going on and how it is affecting me. He helps me utilize those skills as we talk. He doesn't give me formal homework. Occasionally he'll ask me to put some specific thought into something and he ALWAYs asks me to utilize the same skills we use in session in my daily life, particularly on the little things so that I can start internalizing those skills for use when the big things in life crop up. |

My CBT T I believe incorporates other techniques into our sessions, but he is very much a "homework" kind of guy (very few worksheets though).
I spoke up about feeling pressured by the homework so we only talk about that in the first 10 to 15 minutes. After that, it is a little more open ended. He says he is listening for "themes" in my free-form moments, when I'm all over the place. He is always trying to bring structure to our sessions. You can always ask if your T will modify his/her approach if you need it. |

My T does incorporate CBT. She used to give me homework till I gave her too much. Now she just challenges my thoughts to help xgange the thoughts therefore changing the feelings. And she tries to motivate me to change my behaviors at home (i.e. walking, reading, art, etc.) to help change the thoughts and feelings. But my T is more than just CBT, so there's a lot more discussed in sessions.
