It appears my therapist has been charging $435 per hour! This is insane! I'm calling her today to get some feedback on this. Needless to say, my insurance has denied her submissions due to "precertification/authorization exceeded." Who's supposed to pay for this - - me?!

Just wondering how much your therapists charge/what is reasonable?

That is crazy expensive. That would be high even for an initial appointment with a psychiatrist. My T's full fee is $125/hr.

Mine is $160 to $220 a session, but my co-pay works out to $21.00 a session.

While in partial hospitalization, my therapist was $285 a session. My next therapist was $180 a session. Now the person I'm with is $220.

That is outrageous and seems dishonest. I live in a very expensive part of the country and an experienced T charges about $200 per hour. Most don't take insurance either because they don't have too. He has adjusted his fee in my case, but it's still expensive.

wow, are you seeing a super-elite therapist who caters to the super-rich? The only time I have seen fees that high are in NYC and LA/Hollywood where the T's see super-stars and the very wealthy. Most T's in my area cap-out at about $250-$300 (for an experienced, extensively-trained PhD or PsyD with years of licensed practice under their belt, or for a PDoc that also does therapy)...
I hope your T is willing to discuss the matter with you, and figure out what to do from here on out.
That must have been a shocker of a bill.

That sounds exorbitant - who could afford long-term (or even short-term) therapy with those prices??

I don't pay anything for therapy, because my T is paid by the county. (Yes, I am insanely lucky.) I used to see a T who worked for an agency where they charged the equivalent of 95 or 100 US dollars per session. That felt very expensive, especially since I didn't really click with the therapist so the therapy wasn't particularly helpful.

I live in a somewhat expensive suburban area, so these prices might be higher than some (but nothing like OP--WOW!)
My individual T charges $130 an hour--she's an LCSW and has been in practice for like 25 years.
Marriage counselor charges $175 an hour for husband and I--he's a PhD (not sure if his individual rate would be the same).
P-doc charges around $200 an hour, but now I'm just seeing her for half-hour med checks periodically.
Insurance reimburses at like 65% or something like that, since they're out of network (most every T seems to be in this area, and we have a major insurance provider).

I pay out of pocket $50 for each 25-30 min session. Occasionally we do a full 50 minutes for the full $100. My insurance won't help cuz she's out of state and I do phone sessions.

But it get paid by my insurance (which cost me almost €1000 a year). And the first €375,- I have to pay myself.

My therapist charges $140/hour, which is more than $2/minute talking to me. I thought that was a lot.

I pay out of pocket 50€ for one hour. That's 55$.
I have to make some sacrifices to be able to afford therapy but then I see people here who pay 120$ and I can't help but think I'm lucky that my therapist is so cheap!
400+$ sound absolutely insane. Like, how can somebody charge that? You're not god.

$150 per session, but thankfully I use insurance and my copay is minimal. No way could I pay $300 per week for my sessions......so very thankful for insurance!

My T charges 150 euros per 45 minutes and the minimal wage in Greece is 570 euros. So yes.. His whole clientele consists of rich people I guess
(Except from myself -- he has reduced his fee ENORMOUSLY for me; I pay 1/10 of his fee).

My T charges £40 an hour. I think very reasonable. I have to pay my 2-3 sessions per week myself. No insurance here in the UK. I got 14 free sessions initially from Wellbeing at work, when I was initially referred from work.

I get a 90% reduction based on income and household size. I have insanely expensive health insurance, and I still pay out of pocket $20 per session. This is through our county mental health center. My daughter's first T was private pay, no insurance accepted, $22 per session. Apparently my insurance pays $2 per session.
