Why do we keep going back to incompetent professionals called mental health staff - they are usually very mixed up educated people with their own mental illness. We need to stay away from these people. There should be a consumer run movement that discredits all of these idiots. I keep reading all the trauma they put their patients through in the name of therapy. What a bunch of BS. If you have a chemical problem go get the drugs to fix the chemical imbalance. I might add that those with a chemical imbalance problem most of the time do not see a "T" for long term insightful therapy just a pDoc who gives them meds. Y might that be ??????????????

I returned because they promised, and I believed they could alleviate my suffering, they could help me feel a better fit in life.Years later I realized they'd sold me on "repairing"what didn't need it and found, paradoxically, I'm happier if I better accept life's inevitable unhappy parts.
Thanks for this!

DancingLady have you had some bad experiences with therapists? It sounds like some pretty strong resentment and hurt being expressed in your post.

Where do I start. I have been manipulated stomp on betrayed etc. I now have a diagnosis of complex PTSD that happened to me by the trauma and abuse I suffered from mental health professionals.

What was your diagnosis before? Surely previous trauma has played apart in your drinking/alcoholism?

Rest assured I have been checked out by many long term AA members and substance abuse specialists and their opinion is that I am not an alcoholic I maybe drink two drinks at most every couple of days. Please do not diagnose when you are not a professional. I feel so bad when
People pin that on me. I went into therapy because I was a compulsive overeater. I have attended many OA, Alanon, and EA meetings and very familiar with addiction.
I am now a diabetic so my weight is still an issue but that is because of the insulin. No I did not have any trauma prior to my therapy.

I think maybe this topic bothers people but if you look in your state board records you will find many mental health professionals have lost their license due to what I endured. I had to report two of them to the board. One is no longer a practicing PhD social worker.

I am sorry you are feeling rejected. I guess I should have read that before I answered you. My post was not personal to you but too others on the board.

Whilst I agree within the mental health field there are a lot of quacks.
But there is gold in there amongst the dirt. You have to dig to find it.

I'm sorry for what you experienced. I've been traumatized by a couple of Ts too. In fact I recently made a thread specifically based on my own experience of going to a T in solo practice who abused me.

I think the answer is simple. People go back for therapy because they are taught that this is the way to solve their problems. That it works. Therefore when it doesn't, people come to believe they chose the wrong therapist or the wrong modality. In my case I decided it was the wrong therapist. Some people who have been abused or traumatized by quite a few of them or have not gotten better despite years of therapy, might believe the whole thing is a sham. But there are those who got better from therapy. It's hard for me to say if it's good or bad, overall. But I just want people to be cautious.
Thanks for this!

Nothing to stop a consumer from publishing a list of rotten apples nationally or worldwide on the web. If I ever needed it I would use it as one tool for finding a therapist.

A friend of mine published a negative review of her psychiatrist through one of the rate your doctor's and it was removed along with two other negative reports. Reviews I have done locally of a school (rated one of the best in the nation in US News, and Newsweek) was taken down twice. So, I don't trust the review sites.

So, I might put a little more stock in a grassroots list.
